Passat W8 Interior Light / Superb Cat Vision?

Featured Replies

I am probably going to order myself the Passat W8 light in the next week for the Fabia. I noticed the Superb has a similar thing (Cat Vision?). Are they the same part, and do they both light up red?

Josh, I know you got one in your car - do you like it? Don't suppose you have any night time pics without flash to see what its like?

It would be interesting to swap the LEDs for green ones to match the dash lights maybe.

Josh had one in his polo but not sure if he has in the Fabia due to the black roof lining.

I have one in my octavia, i didn't change the illumination as I've changed the whole interior lighting to VW. However swapping the LED's would be very easy if you can use a soldering iron.

Got it in the superb and it is quite handy, no more looking for things on the dash in the dark

I retrofitted Red LED's into my existing roof light.

I used 3mm 12v LED's and black LED Holders. I think I've made a pretty good job of it.

Total cost: A few quid and a bit of my time.

anyone got any pictures? :)

Nice one Josh, rolling your own LEDs in the Fabia. I am temped to do the same, but as I don't have a vRS, the Skoda/VW part is going to match my headlining and I would like to go with that. Plus you get the map reading buttons lit up as well.

In the Superb, I take it the map reading buttons light up green, instead of red for the VW part? If so, this will save me a little work with the iron.

I think you'll struggle with that... IIRC, the buttons have red plastic inside them to make them glow red.

The Superb interior light lights up the icons on the buttons in green to match the rest of your skoda dash and the catvision LED's are red which matches the needles on the speedo/rev counter, a Passat one would light up the icons on the buttons in red so would not really match, go for the Superb one it'll look better IMO

anyone have superb part numbers/ price?

Thanks Josh and John. It has to be the Superb part then! According to the guide we're gonna need the part numbers for the light itself, the plug that clips into the light from the rear, and a couple of lengths of cable.

Don't suppose anyone has access to them? Else I'll have to ask the dealer on a weekday.

(edit) I am assuming the Skoda part numbers for the plug and cable are different to the VW ones on the link.

Hmm - Superb part sounds interesting. Josh - do you have any pics (day/night) of yours fitted?

Steve

Not yet... I'll try and take some today/tonight.

I've never been much good at low-light photography though, so the night time ones might be a bit blurry.

I spoke to Mark at Willis Motor Company just now, who was very helpful and sent me some diagrams the interior lighting parts on the Superb. But the parts in his diagram look identical to the Fabia items, and not similar to the Passat one on Foxy's page (which I am assuming looks the same as the Superb one apart from the red/green lights).

Don't suppose anyone can get the part numbers for:

  • Superb interior light with cat vision, for cars without a sunroof
  • The plug that connects to the back of the above light
  • A couple of lengths of interior light cable to save me from using some bell wire

Would really help!

Bump... don't suppose anyone has access to the part number for the light and plug?

I think the Superb interior light is 3U0947105 with various trim colour codes.

Plug is 3B0972706.

Check them out with the dealer before ordering! ;)

Thanks Jon! Appreciate you looking that up for me

Going to give the dealer a call tomorrow and see what he says.

Keep us updated, interesting this :)

Looked into this and for the Superb interior light I was quoted around

I'll really try to take some photos this weekend at the latest (i've been a bit busy this last week).

I know mine is missing the illuminated logos on the switches, but I've got "Cat Vision" for less than 5 quid.

Sorry if this seems obvious but....... what is "cat vision" and why would you want it in your car?

I'm assuming its not so the cat's eyes in the road can see you coming ;)

Basically, two small low-powered bulbs shining down onto the gearstick area of the interior :)

As seen on various Beemers, and now VAG group cars it would seem. Does look very nice. Josh has some pics of his DIY-install around somewhere.

Steve

So why would you not just turn on the standard interior light? are the red lights on all the time?

Think the small red lights just come on whenever side/headlights are on.

You're probably thinking "what's the point" but it does look very nice, honest ;)

To bring this thread back to life...

I've bought the Superb catvision light and new connector and now need to wire it up. When I removed the existing wires from the old connector, the metalic crimps are physically bigger than fit in the new connector. So I can buy some of the new size, does anyone know what these type of crimps are called and where I can get them from?

Ta.
