New Update For Amundsen Nov 2014

Featured Replies

Ran a search and could find any posts on this topic.

Contacted Skoda Customer Services to ask about registering for when new updates come out.

Interestingly Skoda Customer Services stated they prefer owners to secure the updates from their local dealer and not by downloading themselves?

Anyone had issues downloading the data themselves or come across this odd method of getting new map data?

Get the dealer to do the update??? They're having a laugh !!

So what's "odd" about the link? It's just pointing at the usual download page isn't it?

Latest for Amundsen seems to be June 14. I downloaded in 6 parts and can't get 7zip to recognise the files! Dealer just printed me the instructions that are on the web site, useless!!!

Just checked and new maps for Amundsen out this November (2014), therefore (thanks though) the links on AndyVee log are not up to date
Have not seen the VIN site

But on the site I posted (http://www.skoda-aut...e/maps-updating) you have to check the version number on your system and the version number on the download site

It seems lots of people have had issues either not downloading or corrupting the SD / System

Hence why when asked Skoda Customer Service stated get the new maps from your Dealer

I did ask if the Dealers knew this and they said some do and some don't......

Approaching my dealer in a week or so

Hello 6nations, following your link I still find 40 ECE June 2014, not November... Did I miss something?

My + only has one sd slot

The ones released in June were v40.

As for corrupting SD cards, the only reports of issues that were not user error seem to be when a Mac is being used and it dumps loads of extra hidden files and folders on the SD card.

I only get the message "An unexpected error. Please try again later"

It looks like that the content of new Novembar maps (size and number of files) is pretty smaller?!?

A new file has been available for the last few days. The downloader now works as well on the update site.

It is interesting that the time to download is C 8hrs, of course this depends on your server, but why are you not given a choice of countries, I doubt very much that I will visit Albania the Ukraine or even Turkey with my Skoda yet they are all included , still what do I know

Also I am rather disappointed with the routes and Post code finder afraid iPhone and Tom Tom are better , love the car though :notme:

I noticed it mentions mirrorlink on the update. How do I go about using it?

I used http://updateportal....m/?new_vin=true and downloaded onto the computer hard drive- then went to the downloaded file and unzipped onto a 32g SD card (10 speed) and the Sat Nave says it is invalid data, where am I going wrong, please?

You can ONLY use the Skoda SD card to hold the nav data. Use of any other type of card will result in invalid data.

Take a backup of your original card first just in case .......

You can't.

The Mirrorlink mention is a generic one on the page before you enter your VIN. If / when it mentions mirrorlink after you have entered your VIN then you can have it. Don't hold your breath though as I haven't seen anything that says Mirrorlink is coming to Gen1 MIB units for the O3.

One source on the Skoda web site says you can use any SD card another says only their card, thanks we will see :(

Does someone know why Skoda forbids the use of another card? I mean: if you have an Amundsen in the first place, there is à good chance, 1st that you are entitled to make updates, 2nd that you have the Skoda SD card.

On the other hand, if you dońt have either, I don ´t see the point to download...

Or, there are limitations in the number of overwrites?

Personnally, I did not yet take the risk to overwrite my Skoda SD card...

It is a special card with an area that cannot be accessed by the user. Its part of their encryption system. The Amundsen should come with the correct card (it does in the UK anyway).

You will eventually be limited to free updates for 3 years (the number of overwrites is not limited). After that you will be charged for each update - this is likely to be pricey based on the experience of other VAG group owners.

Its all speculation at the moment how exactly this is all going to work. We will just have to wait on Skoda to make an announcement.

Don't ask about how to hack the encryption as its illegal. Nobody has cracked the encryption anyway.

This has been discussed at length in previous threads.

Thanks!

I would´nt dream asking for illegal questions...

For my wife´s Golf 6, on RNS310, this has not been cracked either, to my knowledge.

I have updated to the 2015 maps and at the same time deleted all the areas of the card that i wont travel to.

so I have UK/ROI, France and Benelux.

And it seems to be noticeably faster processing. probably because it only has 2.6gb worth of files  on the card instead of 8gb.

Thanks to Andyvee for posting the link to the new update portal

Shame Skoda does not allow users to select which countries they would like to download

Nav updated.

Next round of updates I noted is May 2015.
