New Update For Amundsen Nov 2014

Featured Replies

jaysus, what a faff !

the direct link didn't work for me at all,

the original link kicked off some download process worded in czech

it wont let you unpack the data to anywhere but the root of a card

it wouldn't unpack to my original skoda sd card because there wasn't enough room (funny, that, but it should be able to overwrite files)

i'd backed up the original anyway, so i removed the map files and it is currently unpacking on my 2.6ghz 8 core laptop and at the current rate that is going to take 10 hours !

I don't understand why this is taking so long for people. My updated maps downloaded in less than an hour and transferred to the card in about 20 minutes.

Heard a rumour Skoda were considering using a tablet or iPad mini system, sounds a good idea to me with Google mapping or similar continiously updating, music folders and much much more it would get my vote

Does that make it quicker?

it seemed to for me. makes sense as there is a lot less data on the card so should make searching quicker

I did the same ages ago on the previous update when I was looking into the file system to see if there was anything I could change to customise the nav more and I must say I think it does make a little difference.  I updated to the latest version recently and forgot to delete the other maps and am sure it's slower now, especially when doing things such as planning a route.

I wish there was control over the road speeds though, this is a useful feature on stand alone sat navs as it enables you to tailor your trips to give more accurate timings and choose your routing more wisely when calculating.

I had a few problems taking the latest update, which I put down to:

Windows 10 - creating unwanted folders on the SDcard.  See http://www.thewindowsclub.com%2Fprevent-system-volume-information-folder-usb

* save the 'working maps' files from your SDcard to a folder on the PC

* quick formatted the SDcard

* Used the downloader / updater starting from here http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ to update the SDcard (took ages)
* Suprisingly the car accepted the updated card very quickly
