325bhp & 368flbt - WOW, many thanks to Superchips!

Featured Replies

Seriously, you want 325BHP, no turbo-lag and good fuel economy ?

Dunno about Vilnius I personally think your living in cloud cuckoo land (although, I gotta say Galaxy was the most memorable part of the whole Stag weekend last summer)

No offense intended just feel a little realism is required.

When I had a Leon Cupra K1 (2009), it remapped to 300bhp with no increase in turbo lag (it's the same size turbo - why would there be more lag, it just allows more boost before the wastegate is opened) and yes, if pushing it then fuel economy went down but for the majority of the time you're not hooning it and the fuel economy is generally unaffected or actually improved.

Let us know when your car becomes slow again :p

As a vRS TSI DSG owner myself, I am very much looking forward to hearing more from Telboy about how his new weapon is performing in terms of real world pace and drivability! Presumably you have to ease the throttle in gently in first and second gears to avoid wheelspin in a fwd car with that kind of power at your disposal...

Despite clearly being an approximation which does not take into account various factors such as aerodynamic drag, this 0-60 calculator gives a surprisingly accurate estimation of 0-60 times based upon kerb weight, bhp, drive type and transmission type. Useful if you want to get a feel for what a remap or tuning box will do for your 0-60 acceleration times.

You're spot on, gently gently is best and to be honest it is a bit of a learning process on how best to use the power.

I'm more interested in the in gear performance personally, however it is very quick to 60 now and mid range is just awesome.

It is a very easy car to drive, overtake in and have a good old blast down country lanes, so much usable power and torque.

I've just got to learn how to better control my right foot as it's now so addictive!!!

This map is just too good, in gear blindingly quick, the shove is just immense.

Pre map my best mpg was 50.3, Bournemouth to Manchester, best cross country mpg was 38 from Bournemouth to Bristol.

Post map my best so far on same trip from Bournemouth to Bristol, lots of traffic with average speed of 34mph, was still 38mpg so hopefully if things stay this way, great!!

BUT, and there always is one, the power is addictive and I'm still racing around enjoying the power so my mpg is hanging around 33.  :D  :D

I do a lot of miles for work and will be doing Bournemouth to Wales and then over to London on Monday so will see how car performs. When in work mode, due to the amount I can claim per mile, I do try and stay in eco mode to make a few bob.

I will let you know how the trip goes next week and as long as I can get around a 44mpg average, I will be very very happy.  :D  :D Trust me, it is going to be tough not to use that power!!

£365 does seem very good value when compared to APR & Revo prices.

Certainly does look very good value. Raw figures aside, was the power curve measured, essentially the same as the one on Superchips site?

They did several runs on my car, best was 346bhp when at it's coldest, I'm due the power curves in a format I can upload and will post soon. The curve on the site (310bhp version) is roughly where this engine pegs back to, however mine pulled slightly higher than this so I think we settled on 325bhp.

Whichever way you look at it, with the torque, it's pretty darn quick whilst being incredible smooth getting there and all that for £365.

Is this just a stage one map or stage 2

Stage 1, to be honest it's plenty fast enough for me, not that it was too shabby in the first place  :D  :D

Do you know what revision turbo you are running? Believe it or not they (Audi/vw/soda/seat) are on their fourth Revision IHI turbo for this engine

I'm not sure what turbo I'm on, however the car has run very strong (touching wood as he speaks) for over 20,000 miles, being put through its paces on most days.

I was aware of the turbo issue to be fair, however it seems to have hit the Golfs, Seats and Audis more than Skoda, not sure why??

I only ever map my cars once they've done the golden 20k miles as need to be sure that any initial problems surface in good time before I start to play. :D  :D

I have heard that the turbos have failed on both mapped and stock cars and seem to happen early on in terms of mileage so fingers crossed.

I've also heard the Seat leon Cupra DSG boxes have been playing up and yet mines been fine,....

Hey Telboy, does the superchip map have different settings for different octane fuel like the APR one? 98 ron fuel is not available in lots of areas in NZ, so the ability to swap between a 95 and a 98 map is a big plus for me.

Superchips advised me that the map they do was programmed on 95 ron fuel, so should you only be able to get your hands on 95 ron, it won't matter, you'll still get the performance. If you can get 98 ron or above, I can only imagine it will help a little  :D  :D

On a side note, Bluefin for the VRS is coming, it's a little way off yet so the car needs to be programmed at a superchips dealer for now. Apparently they are working on Bluefin for the TDI Vrs first and then the TSI.

So, are you using 95 Ron in yours?

2 quid a tank difference !!!!!!! WTF

So, are you using 95 Ron in yours?

Nope, always use 99 ron fuel, maybe that had something to do with the peak power output of 346bhp  :D

In all seriousness, I try most of the time to ensure I put 99 in so can't comment on how it would preform with 95 ron fuel, however it is designed to run at over 310bhp on 95 run so it should be fine.

Warranted, however in the long run and looking at my average I get in terms of real world economy, the 5 % increase in cost is always paid back in the return I get which has always been about 10% better mpg.

Most of the reported IHI turbo failures have occurred during the first 1000 miles. This seems to be a high infant mortality rate problem which affects both tuned and stock engines, and is most probably a component defect. Turbos that live past the teething phase tend to be very reliable, which is why most mappers recommend not to map the engine for the first several thousand miles or so. This logic applies to most other cars as well.

does it affect your warranty :notme:

Secured a warranty with Superchips also just incase, however my local dealer is still happy to sort out any issues under warranty and if it's obviously linked to the map, then I would get Superchips to sort.

MPG update;

Drove from Bournemouth to Newport Wales then across to London, absolutely drove like I stole it for first part of journey and still returned 39mpg.

On my return from London to Bournemouth it managed a respectable 44 mpg in eco mode  :D  :D

Well pleased with that.

OK that's it. Visiting a Superchips will be the 1st thing I'll do after first 1300 miles   (only 100 miles on the clock at the moment).

Can you please post Dyno curves here?

Perhaps you can make an accelaration video (that would be awesome)?
