trouble is, if you don't publish I ring time these days, the general public's assumption will be that it's slow :-/ even though it's pretty much irrelevant to the vast majority of us

  • He's trying to keep us off the Golf R thread...

  • Bumps the thread up though.

Autoexpress drag video of Honda TypeR v Golf GTI Clubsport S

Was it possibly to buy a VW Golf Clubsport S for £28,000 as shown in the vid?

Yes, if you got in early and had the base spec. Unfortunately all UK stock now sold out. However, in the very short term, it may be an appreciating asset for the collector of Limited Edition or greedy dealerships.

Really.

Can you link to anyplace where the RRP of a Golf Clubsport S with no options was £28,000 in the UK.?

Sorry George, misread what you were asking, think Autoexpress have used the base GTI model price @ £28k. The GTI Clubsport S base price was circa £33.5k, very much doubt whether there was any room for negotiation.

As i thought.

You can go and get the latest Honda Civic Type R for under £30,000 but you could not and can not get the limited number sold Clubsport S for under £30,000.

It was basically a VW Google search and magazine distraction as the 40th Anniversary Golf GTI Clubsport was over priced and not breaking any records.

There are plenty Demonstrators advertised that are sitting around the country & under £25,000 would get someone yet another big upped Hot Hatch that the journalists love and he UK buyers are not that fussed about buying.

Honda have just given extra financial support to dealership, hence the variation on discount quotes shown above via Carwow. So 8%+ discount

should be an objective , if you are in the market for the Type R ,I assume Type R GT similarly.

See Jeremy Clarkson reviews Honda Civic Type R Current Model,in todays Sunday Times Magazine - Driving article.

"It's Dressed to thrill with nowhere to go"

His 3 star rating, if anyone can find article and paste - as super linky is out of action.lol

George,

A lot of effort for minimal return, with this lot imo.

Objective focus on the Focus RS me thinks - no meaningful end conclusion. Guess it's all been done by now.

Must be the old fart in me these days.

That looks a fair bit different to the one I saw last year. I will be at Honda to test load these on our road transporters next week b)

Look forward to your insight and update, especial engine and drivetrain - not easy I know /take care.

Unfortunately, all I get is a quick ride in a carpark woth a 10mph speed limit, so not much scope for anything other than a sneaky peak really. Shame.

I did try last year to convince a senior manager to let me take the current shape Type-R down the test track, but he laughed as hard as when I asked him to have enough a go in the new NSX last week :(

Might be able to post a picture or two though (but will need to ask permission)
