All season tyres?

Featured Replies

just wondering if anyone has used the "all weather all season tyres" ive heard both good and bad reports from friends and read some good and bad too, just wondering if theyre and option as i dont want to lose performance in ALL seasons and have average in all, id rather have winter tyres next year and keep the standards on now, and also what are people running for standard in the summer or winter? cheers in advance....

Gonna have a look through some old threads.. see if i can revive one instead of starting new.. taken Goneoffski's advice there.. cheers anyway guys..

Too late, it has started.

So where are you, in the UK.  where, what is the weather. Or Australia.

I imagine it is the UK.

So best see what the weather is like and how your tyres behave.    & get some good 215/40 R 17 tyres for next year. Hot & Sunny.

Im in Cheshire at the moment.. id perhaps best take the Australia bit back off as ive stopped coming back and too and moved my bits back here so. the weather isnt too bad i wouldnt say.. i mean its getting down to about 5-6 but nothing horrendous.. you recommend any decent tyres George for next year? The wheel spin on these is just.. a bit too much for me not enough grip (in the warmer weather obviously)

The Federal as used by sharkrider i would think.

I like Pirelli Zero Nero now because they are tough on bad roads with potholes.

(i have cut one this week though.)

& i like Dunlop Sport Maxx in the warm, because others do not and i get them cheap..   Scottish you see.

I took the view that while i am using my winters (dunlop SP winter sport 4d) I am not wearing out the standard tyres so the extra cost is just the set of steelies. And I have the bonus of excellent grip when its snowing or icey. After experiencing both I think I will allways try to have a set or winters for Nov to March.

Ran the Goodyear 4 Season on our lads previous Mk 1 to good effect. Although with his Fabia II HTP we went with an extra set of winter wheels, although when the current tyres wear out may go back to the all season option.

Sounds good. I dont need all the summer grip anyway to be fair. Its only a 1.2. I dont drive slow, but still.

Id rather have more grip in winter.

I dont even need to drive it in the snow, although we do get it quite bad so its nice to have something that can cope. Its more for the cold weather performance. Gets very cold and horrible around here. Its nice to have something that isnt noisey and useless like the current tyres

Cheers for all the feedback lads, and cheers shark I'll have a good read of that now :) and cheers oli I'll have a read of your old thread :)

Has anyone thought about just putting winter tyres on the front? Obviously, they'd need to be the same size as the back but for mine I can get 215/40/17 for around £88 so isn't going to be that bad.

Yup. I've done it on an 05 polo.

Wouldnt recommend it, but you can do it, if you know what to expect.

If you brake hard in snow or bad weather, the front grips n the back doesnt, leaving you spinning round, n round...

Also. If you accelerate around a corner, then let off, the back swings round, so be quick with the opposite lock. (That bits loads of fun. I loved it)

Good point.

I used Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons on the Polo which worked a treat - no issues.

With the Fabia Greenline I've opted to keep the low rolling resistance option and replace the original Dunlop Sport Bluresponse with the Vredestein Quatrac Lite.

The Vredesteins don't have the M&S classification which the Vector 4 Seasons do, but I'm hoping they'll do the job this winter.

(If it gets really tricky I'll opt to leave the Fabia tucked up in bed and take the Octy 4x4, which is shod with Nokian WR 3D winter tyres).

Quatrac Lites are full all weathers and do have M+S (as well as mountain and snowflake) qualification, that's what I use on my Roomster. They are very good so far, grip improved after 200 miles or so, very good in the wet as well as when it's frosty outside. No snow yet, but the thread looks capable of handling it.

Just had a look and you're right - every day a school day!

Have to let me know how you get on this winter guys.. :) cheers for the info..

M+S is worthless. It just means a certain % of the tread is open. Nothing about the compound, sipes, the pattern or whether it provides any benefit at all in winter driving.

The mountain and snowflake logo is what it has to have, that means it has actually been tested and certified to do its job.

QLs have both markings, I agree "mountain and snowflake" (M&S? :p ) is more relevant than M+S.

5" of snow yesterday and the Vredestein Quatrac Lite All-season tyres performed really well - no drama anywhere.
