Polo GTI some details

Featured Replies

I don't get how the R Line model gets the funky new twin tailpipe exhausts and the GTI gets the old-fashioned pair.

Hi all   Gave the Polo a quick single wash yesterday - don't want to do too much work as I have the car being detailed next week and want to leave the paintwork as untreated as possible until then.

Mate, when your previous car was a 60bhp Citigo, believe me the Polo GTI is "blistering"

Like their reviews.

Don't think you can order the GTi in October - "1The new Minigolf GTI is not yet offered for sale and is, thus, not subject to Directive 1999/94/EC."

Brian,

Minigolf GTI is strange wording to use, I wonder if they mean instead of a Polo R they will use the 230bhp in  Polo GTI R. Or perhaps it's me being optimistic.lol

They use crazy translations and language when describing many things.

They all like the title Doctor and are engineers and such and are all about media spin and advertising.

They speak perfect English when it suits and as soon as the likes of the current VW CEO has to answer tricky questions reverts to German and a translator.

Looking forward to the VW Polo 2.0TSI GTI when they finalise the actual details, new EU Testing for September 2017, and they finalise the emissions etc.

Hopefully better R&D this time from VW, and not just lots of guff on Ring times pre launch to the public, and better than Ford did with Focus RS and then added Crackles & Pops, and extra fueling to get that, then duff engines produced.

I like 'Minigolf GTi' though :) .

Keeping with the British Leyland theme for BREXIT it could be the Maxipolo GTI and have a flat bottom, top and sides steering wheel and velour interior.

Some of those German MINI's are huge these days, even larger / heavier than a Golf with some of them.

So the Seat Arona Cupra is to get the same engine as the Polo GTI and 400 litre boot space which is nice,

up and at them seating position as well i would hope.

^^^ Is the SEAT Ibiza Cupra going to be getting a 2.0 litre tsi?

Come on you heavy footed driver, eco friendly or what?

My missus has 20,000 miles on the clock, new march 2016, her long-term is currently (think it's currently over 6000 miles period) showing approx., 39 mpg and she is a nutter on the throttle and brake driver. Still original tyres and last service at 19500 miles showed 3mm all round and brake pads still okay. Pretty good or what.

Superb from Mrs Keith - I'll put that extra 5 mpg down to the efficiency of DSG ;) .

I am heavy footed and mostly urban driving (as told by my average speed) - expect it'll improve as the engine loosens up.

Brian is that just much the same as you got with the Twincharger.

In fairness to you Brian, she has a long commute on mainly A & B country good roads and the majority M4 to the outskirts of Bristol. Not too many traffic hold ups and queuing, so reasonably efficient running, even if she likes to give it a blast frequently . However, George she, like me runs the motor on Tesco Momentum 95% of the time and our experience is that also helps with mpg and performance. As you say Brian maybe a little help with the DSG,but she does like her Sport mode.

I'd be guessing, George, but it does seem a little bit thirstier.

So here we have it. Next generation.

Like the externals shut line shaping  and the quirkiness or the interior.

Not sure on those wheel arches though.  Going to be a total PITA with car park / shopping trolley dings.

I see a good trade in  aftermarket  Arch Body Trim /Extensions or a more Sporting Versions of the Polo GTI coming from VW

Maybe provision for wheel arch extensions for the R version later ,as you hint George

First service today - at 2,942 miles :D - at least Arnold didn't try to upsell me new discs and pads a la Henry's.

To be fair Arnold's service was excellent - better than Henry's - texted me to let me know work had begun, texted / emailed visual health check and phoned / texted to say it was ready (at Henry's I usually toddled up after work in the hope that the car was ready).

Here we have it, Thomas's initial  review of the 2018 Polo GTI .

Looking forward to ragging one soon.

Surely that one in the studio has the Transit Blocks still in.   Wheels will be a nightmare and 'White Spider' an almost guaranteed, but as long as VW keep replacing under warranty no probs.
