Polo GTI some details

Slightly surprised at the number of 6C GTIs I have seen - certainly in comparison to the 6R GTI - while it's still no best seller having the manual option unsurprisingly seems to have made a difference - I love DSG but accept you're excluding a large part of the potential market (especially for a warm / hot hatch) when there isn't a choice. New Polo is due out at the end of the year, so the 6C production run will be fairly short, ensuring it will be a relative rarity on the roads (something I always like :) ).

I certainly wouldn't've bought mine if DSG was the only choice. Each to his own but I experienced DSG in the Fabia vRS and felt it took away much of the fun of driving the thing.

Hi all   Gave the Polo a quick single wash yesterday - don't want to do too much work as I have the car being detailed next week and want to leave the paintwork as untreated as possible until then.

Mate, when your previous car was a 60bhp Citigo, believe me the Polo GTI is "blistering"

Needed some odds and ends - there's a Sainsbury's 0.6m up the road but I decided to go for a wee blast out to Strathaven - 32-mile round trip to get some toothpaste and Robinson's apple and blackcurrant :) .

That's it nearly run in - found some great advice on running in a TSI from Rainmaker in the Superb III forum - not sure how I stumbled in there...

My missus has just passed 15000miles in the 1st year of ownership. Not a rattle or worn interior or stone chipped paintwork and above all never missed a beat. She drives like a redheaded nutter,so heavy right foot throttle and brake but a good quick driver, even if smoothness is not  one of her best traits. Having said that as a male, the car is spotless, tyre wear and disc pads less than half worn.

However, that 1.8 TSI just gets better, especial in Sport mode., I'll put up with her DSG.(manual man)

Cracking fun drive around my country roads, flappy paddles and all.

That's good to hear - bonnet on my vRS seemed to collect paint chips for fun (definitely worse that any other car I've owned).

The sub-6s 0-62 sounds a bit optimistic based on only eight extra horses - I could well be wrong - the S1 does it but that has an extra 30 on the proposed Polo.

Changing the subject I find it difficult to see the oil on the dipstick - either down to the viscosity of the oil or my eyesight - I have to stick my finger on the dipstick to check - paranoia after five years in a vRS :D .

No worries Brian, It's an age thing. Spec savers will do it,that's what Skoda and VW Master Techs recommend.lol

Let's hope vw start putting some more goodies in as standard then

Nearly 20k for a car with no satnav and 1970's tartan seats?

And they wonder why they don't sell many!

My partner's Polo GTI 1.8, 5 dr DSG ,with virtually full spec, bought via Orangewheels ,came in at £20.2 K

Oh ! She retained the( Retro now ) Tartan interior - which us old farts  both love .

Quality small hot hatch with good space for 4 adults.

In terms of sales volumes, what are you comparing it with Fiesta ST / Mini Cooper S JCW etc.?

No official figures but theyve always known to be a low seller

Far more st etc on the road with more kit as standard

Daft as it sounds am still looking at polo gti next, now that there's no vrs fabia mk3

Either that or wait and see what next years Swift Sport brings....

Tartan they should very much keep - it's part of GTI heritage. So they have appeal.

There's usually a leather option anyway, so go for that if you don't get on with the seat design :)

I criticised the tartan before I bought one, but I like it now. You can't see it when you're sitting in it anyway...

Hit an unlikely 6C hotspot today - three clocked between Lochgilphead and Tarbert (white more door, white three-door and black three door).

While being back in a manual is more involving I did miss a couple of overtaking opportunities I'd have gone for in the vRS - by the time my brain thought about depressing the clutch and shifting down a cog or two it was too late - with the DSG I'd just have floored it - it is a great 'cheat device' :D .

Yeah, but not the all round driving experience. As you say Brian, DSG is fine for a lazy driving brain and the odd straight line blip. How many thousand on the clock now Brian, half way to 1st service yet or are you on flexible servicing.

My missus Polo GTI is just arriving at her 2nd service, if you pardon the expression.

Enjoy you driving weekend mate.

Only just broken in - 1747 miles  - picked it up 26th January, so had it a shade over four months. First service is due at the end of September - Arnold Clark had to keep the car for four months after registration before they could sell it (it had 12 on the clock when I picked it up).

Nice.

If they did an Estate / Combi that would be pretty good. Especially a Polo GTI Combi.  (Or a Fabia Combi with the 150Ps & 200ps engines.)

So the new hatch is less than 1" wider than a Mk3 Fabia, 2 1/2" longer than one and has 21 litre more boot capacity.

All that extra from the 'New Platform'.

It'll be interesting to see the prices - imagine 'list' for the GTi will exceed £20k - hopefully further down the line there'll be 'much cheapness' offers like the 6C.

It's getting to the stage that it's almost indistinguishable from the Golf.
