Where do you keep your car keys?

Featured Replies

Dear all,

I just thought it would be a good idea to make everyone think about where they toss the keys to their pride and joy every night when they come home because last night two lads tried the back door to my house, found it unlocked and let themselves into my kitchen. I was in the next room watching TV and heard them so I was able to chase them off. The boys in blue reckoned that more than likely they were after the keys to my car and anything else that may have been within arms reach.

How many of you just get into the house and throw your keys, cash, wallet etc on the kitchen table or a shelf near the door or in a pocket of your jacket? This is all very 'stable door/horses bolted' but you wouldn't leave your mobile on the passenger seat when you left the car so why leave the keys to

Hi Rich,

Always sleep with my keys - well I take them upstairs at night anyway!

Sorry to here of your incident, but sounds like you were fairly lucky. A neighbour where we lived 4 years ago had thir house broken into by 2 gits as high as kites. They got the keys (left downstairs ) and made off with various contents in my mates MR2 which was on the drive. Fortunately they were caught later that night and did time (not enough)

Moral - dont leave keys visible, esp downstairs.

Steve

On a key board visible from the back door when open but out of easy reach of it. And you have to get past a 50/50 Staffordshire bull terrier/American Staffordshire to get at them!

PS But she's as soft as a brush....

So move them, soft dog or no soft dog. My keys weren't visible but shell suit boy and his mate had a go anyway.

Happy new year all.

One of the guys at my work has had his vRS stolen a couple of days ago.

They broke into his house for his keys also.

Myself, having an Audi TT roadster as well, I get a little paranoid about this type of thing happening. So I keep the keys in my bedroom.

Had a similar thing happen to me , I was living in putney at the time and the toe rags trashed the flat i was living in at the time.

As it happened during the day and the place was a mess didnt even think about checking for the spare car keys.

Yes they had taken them and a week later they came back and took the car  :x

So now the spare car keys are hidden in the house......and the car keys are always left on my dressing table.

Beware there are thieves about

Having been told off earlier, they are now under my pillow along with the spare, both sets of keys for the Felicia, both sets for a 205 1.9GTi, both sets for a Nissan 200Sx, and both sets for a work Cavalier Estate! (Oh, I forgot my son's girlfriend's car keys). I also sleep on my credit cards, wallet, cheque books (x4), spare cash, wife's jewellery, about 8 mobile phones.

Not to mention the stash sawn into the mattress, a Denis :

Was i not supposed say that :ignore:

Guess who's been to the panto this Christmas... 8)

We keep all ours well hidden and always lock all the house doors after the exact same thing happened to two friends of ours. The first got in via an unlocked door and nicked general stuff but the second was a via a forced door, taking keys for two cars, nicking one car and phones!... not good.

BOth bike and car keys are well out of eye shot ! Keep the thieving bastids at bay  As an aside 3 or 4 cars out in the country round CHorley got nicked one morning a week or so ago when the owners left them running to de-ice whilst inside having a brew, don't do it!!

Drawer or draws?

How are you Huck, better? up for Thursday?

My spare key is safely hidden beyond the wit of any thief. My main key is kept with me at all times. Frankly, I'd rather be stabbed than hand it over. I'd drop it into a river before being robbed. If someone tries to carjack me at traffic lights, they'll probably end up under the wheels.

I had a system in my Capri Brooklands that meant the alarm would only deactivate when a transponder fob on my hand was passed within 5 inches of the transceiver.

I am exploring the concept of having a similar device made that means when I am in the car the engine runs and when I'm not in the car it doesn't go anywhere.

It will not only mean the car stays put in my garage and drive but if an attempt car-jacker tries it on, you just get out walk off at a fast pace whilst phoning the bill and the engine stops - neat eh?

Now all I gotta do is set it up.

Don't ask where my transponer will have to be inserted please!!!

cheers Chris

I usually leave the keys in a place that's fairly obvious once you're in the house - I'd rather the thieves got in and got the keys, rather than causing damage and injury to get them.

Doesn't really matter though - I generally leave one of the wife's CD's (Catatoneless, Bloodyawful South, etc..) set to play the moment you turn the ignition on, so they won't get too far before they're giving themselves up to the police, pleading to listen to something decent :D:D:D
