Featured Replies

Good evening, I am in the need for a tyre for my vrs and was wondering how do I know which Pirelli Pzero tyres are fitted to my 19s as there is 3 types. Many thanks

Don't worry in 7-1/2 K you can get some longer lasting tyres. LOL

To be honest I will be changing my pirelli p-zeros probably before they are due. I'm reluctant to change them at moment as they are still pretty new, but so far i don't rate them

I've been waiting for 37,000 miles for my bl00dy Dunlop Sport Maxx GTs to wear out, they still got 3.5mm front, 6.5mm rear! Think I might just change all 4 to see if I can get some that improve the ride quality, and might stick the rears on flea bay to get rid!

So what tyres would you knowledgeable folk recommend for all round wet/dry performance and more importantly good comfort over rough roads.

Goodyear supposedly get good ratings but the fact they are sister brand to Dunlop worries me a bit, so was thinking of getting Michelin PS3 for mine.

On my MK2 vrs's I had Michelin ps3's all round and found them great in both the wet and dry. I did prefer the Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 2 that replaced them though.

I have heard/read this so many times, yet why are the ones on my Scirocco still going :-( I have done about 20000km on them (and I wasn't nice to them) and will be replacing them next season as the rubber is getting too hard. They are (like the car) from 2008 as I don't do many miles on that car.

They have become horrible in the moist/wet, sliding about on every occasion like it's winter. Glad I'll be rid of them. In the beginning they were OK, but I won't be getting any p-zeros anymore (and hoping the VRS comes with something else). Considering the general consensus on here that the Dunlops are hard as hell, I was thinking of some Conti sport contacts or the Goodyear eagle F2. I have to say that I'm usually buying my tyres depending on the latest tyre tests in car magazines.

The Vrs only comes with p-zeros if you ordered the 19"wheels

No contest - Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric 2's in 225/40R18

I value your opinion and seriously thinking of swapping all 4 even though I could probably switch them round and get another 30k out of this set of Dunplops!

Put the Dunlops from the rear on to the front and fit F1s to the rear.

Then wheelspin everywhere until the Dunlop ditchfinders wear out :)

I am 100% with Andy: exactly the same tyre with the same size and a HUGE improvement on any parameter.

On the contrary the Pzero were a real mess: noisy and bad traction both on dry and wet.

Ah, and both sets were fresh and new, professionally installed by a trustworthy garage.

I find the p-zeros the same crap in both wet and dry.

Just fitted p zeros on the front of my vrs, and was quite impressed on sunday evening driving through snow on the m74, I didnt get a single wheel spin or slide

That it quite extraordinary mileage and in a car with considerable torque available.

As an aside I would love to know how the alignment settings on your car compare with Skoda specifications.

I have 17 inch Dunlop Sport Maxx on my 1.4tsi and have no problems with their ride, grip, or handling although where I live it rarely rains and when it does you can count the spots (eleventeen so far this morning). I have only done 5000 km since new, so too soon to know how far they will go.

These tyres are made in numerous factories around the world and you have to wonder at the quality control and variability of the compound used.

It sounds like yours are a particularly hard compound hence the wear and grip characteristics.

I remember a recent post (not necessarily this forum or UK) where an ex-tyre dealer claimed that car manufacturers received the best tyres, dealers the next best and tyre distributors the rest.

For whatever reason he received a consignment of tyres originally assigned to manufacturers and claimed they were a dream to fit and required minimal balancing weights added.

My original Octavia Mk2 came with 15 in Dunlops and initially I was delighted with them but then had to change them prematurely at 20k km because they got so incredibly noisy despite regular rotation. Yokohamas were much quieter throughout their life but never offered the same grip the Dunlops did.

I usually got 35k km out of a set of Yokohamas but I wonder if the environment here in Australia is a bit more severe. On a 40 degree Centigrade day the road surface temperature is almost enough to fry the proverbial egg and that has got to hurt.

Try harder :)

At the moment I would say the pirelli's are one of the worst tyres for grip I have ever had. Hopefully they improve as they have only done 700 miles so far.

They will, when they are bald and the track temperature is 40 degrees you might find some grip

Nope... IMOE

Try harder :)

 yes must do better
