Slipping Clutch "Update"

Featured Replies

OK.............Just been out on a spirited run on the private roads around were I live and........If I use the gears alot, change down to a much lower gear and floor it the clutch doesn't slip. Don't use 6th under 70/75 on the twisties if you driving spiritivley. On the Motorways If you crusin at 80/85 and you need some speed drop a gear, accelerate, then change back up I'm sure if I follow these basic guidelines it may save my clutch (all these speeds were done on my private track ;) )

Thats called driving around the clutch. ;)

Since my remap, I drive on the revs rather than the torque anyway. Ive never had it in 6th on the twisties, the car does 130mph in 5th which is plenty...:D

You get more punch driving on the torque, but as you say, it doesnt do yer clutch or gearbox any favours. My 'box shakes if i boot it from below 2000rpm. In other circumstances, a shaky box would be quite nice :P

dont floor it and dont drive it uphill below 2000 rpm and it should last.

That's the dual mass flywheel taken punishment which is not good :thumbdwn:

Just wait till all you remapped peeps get to 50k :o

I thought i was the only one that had a clutch problem, Got a new one put in yesterday. they tried to blame it on my driving style but i won them round and the warrenty covered it.

This is one reason i will not map myFab VRS. I personally think 300lbs/ft of torque is too much for the VRS, well for all standard internals anyway.

Continuous slippage like such cannot be doing flywheel/box any good.

Evidently how many VRS owners out there with remapped cars, with high mileage still have the same clutch. Would be good to keep an eye on this to see how remapped VRS pan out over time, may answer a few questions.

Paul

To be fair it depends on how you drive the car. Mine has slipped 2 or 3 times when I've basically been lazy and asked too much too soon!

Cant see the clutch failing anytime soon, I've heard of a few chaps that have fried theirs within 3k miles because they drive like well a plum!

Ive done 50k and mine is still holding.. but slips occasionally, its not got much life left :(

Is yours remapped mate, if so 50k aint to bad. :)

Paul not all maps push the car to the limit, take the AMD one click, this is coded to work within safe parameters.

Been speaking with DMS. They only rate the stock turbo to 1.35bar. (stock boost)

Is yours REVO John?

My pre-remap shopping list consists of FMIC and Miltek... perhaps an uprated clutch should also be added to that list

Nope. stock. DMS do not like upping the boost on the PD130 for some reason.

If I had the money the list would be, FMIC (even std the intake temps get very hot in the summer), remap, clutch, miltek (but can't say I'd bother with one).

John if it is like the AMD remap they will up the boost pressure a little otherwise you could of just bought a tuning box for less as this is what they do in essence.

I'm pretty sure the AMD one does alter the boost, maybe only slightly, but it still does :)

My pre-remap list includes pretty much most stuff in my sig  - uprated brakes, FMIC and hopefully a Blue Flame or Milltek system will be done soonish :)

Have a look at my reply I did say it ups the boost ;):D

I think it up's it to circa 1.6 bar IIRC

Nope DMS use a different map that does not increase MAX boost. They dont rate the turbo at all.

Nope DMS use a different map that does not increase MAX boost (forgot to say that bit  ) as I've found out by doing some vag-com logs over the summer. But the boost is altered in places.

So what is the boost pressure at WOT then ?

1.35bar. They say they will not increase it.

Jeeze that is low.
