Suspension- what shoud I do?

Featured Replies

Fit the 650quid KW coilovers that I can set my own ride height and have decent handling, but will mess up the auto-leveling xenon lights (Would have to buy an adaptor and fit it - how, I dont know) and might have naff ride quality.

Or

Fit the Eibach -25mm springs and dampers for around 470quid that give decent handling aswell, wont mess up the lights and apparently give an ok ride. But i'll still be left with a gap between the tyre and the arch :(

Why is it so expensive and why dont Eibach do lowerer springs!! :mecry:

Are coilovers really worth the money and messing around with the self leveler?

what about just the springs for about

Why would coilovers mess up the xenons? Surely if you reset them and re-adjusted them once the coilovers are on, they'll work normally? Unless you change your ride height often?

The springs are another, cheaper option just to see what the ride heights like I suppose.......

Ive read that if you drop the car say more than 40mm an adaptor is needed (On the rear axle somewhere im guessing??)

I got this from Motorsportworld.co.uk under the KW section:

07) When lowering more than 40mm, the anti-sway bar must be retrofitted. Anti-sway bar conversion set without Xenon headlights: KW PartNo. 685 50 000, Anti-sway bar conversion set for vehicles with Xenon headlights: KW Part No. 685 50 005

Ive also read someones post on here (forgotton who it was :o) and he said a similiar thing.

Ah, ok then. More reason for me to just get the Eibach's when my bank balance tops up.

I can cope with a gap, as long as it's smaller than the current one, and I can still run around the local b-roads without worrying about the road surface condition so much.

i would go for springs only, many on here have and say it works really well. much cheaper than coilovers too

just depends what ur looking for from ur suspension

( - Thread title. I cant type :o)

I really dont want to mess about with that anti-sway bar. Just want to fit the suspension kit and have done with it. On my old Punto I just fitted the springs and wasnt impressed- told myself with this car im gonna do it properly and get shocks aswell. Whether it be height adjustable coilovers or the Eibach kit. Probably the Eibachs now.

Josh has got his Fabia really low and he just adjusted the xenons AFAIK.

I have the full Eibach kit and it suits me.

I don't think you would want to go much lower for everyday driving. The council are in the process of putting some speed bumps in the road I use to get into where I live and I'm not sure I can get over them yet - might not be able to get my car home!!

Mind you wouldn't be the first time the council put a well aimed fist squarely up my @r5e.

i would go for springs only, and there is a group buy on just now too

Hi Dave

I parked my std. car next to JonTDI's Eibach -25mm car and the diffrerece in stance was quite different! Much more squat and it seemed just right IMO.

I personally wouldn't go any lower as there maybe problems with the already low sump scraping!

If you're interested there's a group buy going on at the moment on Eibachs

Prices of spring and damper. Fitting and 4 wheel alignment extra.

Springs -

Cheers guys

What does that extra 'bar' do (i.e. anti-sway doesn't mean much to me ;))?

Where is it fitted? Any benefits to having it even when you use the Eibach setup (which is work-in-progress)

Nice !!!

Im half way through sending SkodiRS a PM and dont know what to order - springs alone or springs and dampers. What difference do the dampers make? Is it improved handling or ride quality?

Thanks

I've driven JonTDI's with springs and dampers with strut brace and it makes a big difference to the std. setup. So much better going round corners with little roll!

I personally am just going for the springs, due to cost restraints but many on this forum have said it's a massive improvement on springs alone! I guess it's what's within your budget!?

yeah i agree, budget usually makes the final decision. and ive heard so many good reports with just springs

If you are paying to have them fitted, have the springs done and then realise you want the shocks then it's going to cost you twice.

Im going to be fitting them myself ;) Still, it would be a pain in the **** taking it all apart again to fit the Eibach dampers. But what does the uprated damper do differently to the standard one?

  • Author

Decided to totally contradict myself and go for springs only. If they work well with the standard dampers, i'll use those for a bit and the money saved can go towards other bits and pieces......like insurance and servicing

Are you going to put your name down on the Group Buy? ;)

Done already ;) It was lucky I caught that one!
