Octavia 3 & back pain

I found the link below for manuals on the Octy 3, download the bodywork manual page 413->.

I disconnected the battery and waited 30 minutes before working on the car to be on the safe side as I have side air bags. Tilt the backrest completely flat to separate the join at the base of the back rest. Then use some side cutters to break the metal clips securing the seat cover to the seat. There are numerous points at the front back you need to cut, also the lumbar handle just slides out. Take care not to overly crease the seat material as you lift it up.

The Leather/Eletric seats in my 230 are excellent. You can adjust the front on the seat base to give extra support.   Very comfortable indeed.........

I don't know if lumbar support is too great an idea in cars. Maybe for static office chairs... but in a car where everything is vibrating... is it just adding extra vibration to your back? Better to h

I had not really noticed the offset pedal issue myself so just went out to the car to check.

The steering wheel and instruments are central and looking down at the pedals it seems that the clutch and brake are either side of the steering wheel and the accelerator is off to the right.

Now obviously I'm driving a manual and while the Octavia clutch is relatively light (compared to some other cars I have driven) it still requires far more pressure to operate than the other two pedals. The fact that it is directly inline with my left hip allows maximum direct pressure with minimal lateral knee deflection, which ideally suits me but I am slim (and incredibly good looking... and modest B)) and don't know if relative driver size affects the relationship.

Yes the accelerator is offset to the right relative to my hip but requires minimal pressure and the brake is pretty well ideal for my right foot although this is not so necessary considering how (over)assisted and even sensitive they are.

Therefore I don't actually twist my body to operate the accelerator, just move my right leg across to widen my 'stance'. On long journeys I do use the cruise control a lot and rest my foot on the floor somewhere between the accelerator and brake. My car does not have the ACC cruise control and manually change the speed settings on the stalk instead of using the accelerator pedal outside of urban areas.

That is just a personal opinion of course.

One thing I remember with my Octavia mk2 (manual) was that I occasionally found the pedals a little close together (especially when I wore wide fitting shoes) but have not been aware of this as a problem on the mk3. Does anyone know if there is actually any difference in pedal placement between the two versions?

Crikey that seems like some job.

I can almost say right now I wont be doing that lol...

The seats in my vRS are they best I've ever owned. After a 10hr drive (either driving or in passenger seat) I don't have any pain at all, unlike my previous Focus. In that I'd get lower back aches after a few hours.

  • 4 weeks later...

So I got a Backfriend to help posture but I'm definitely getting a sore back still.

The car feels every bump in the road. The suspension might as well not be there.

The backfriend forces me to sit in the centre of the seat.. which pushes me closer to the gear stick, middle of the car. I think the seat itself should be closer to the driver's side window.....

Anyone else find the Octavia 3's front seat are really close to the centre console and there's a big gap between the seat and the door? My right arm has to over-reach slightly to rest on the door handle.

For me, personally, I don't like the steering column where I have to position it higher than I like to prevent my knee from hitting it. Causing me to sit more up-right than I prefer. But I find the manual seats to be okay, the pedals are well positioned compared to my previous car. My previous '56 Mercedes C coupe have far worse pedal placements, but its seat and steering column allows me to drive very "leisurely".
