2014 140ps Yeti Intermittently Loses Power

Any dealer 'worth his salt' would give you a temp and live with your problem.

They obviously don't need your business.

Thanks for the responses all. It would be interesting to hear if Waterwiz gets any response. I've taken the car back as in need of the 4WD and am keeping it topped with high quality fuel and have used a bottle of Redex Diesel Advanced to help clear any build up. Only had one minor judder since so going to keep going with it to see how it develops. Any more failures to start and it's going back and will be straight on the phone to Skoda UK.

Ah the joys of modern cars / dealers.

No fault code = no interest.

Contact Skoda UK now. At least let them know of the current situation.

If the problem re-occurs in a few months time it'll help to get back in touch with Skoda with your case number and be able to demonstrate you've had this issue for several months / thousands of miles.

Don't trust the dealers to do this.

You don't even need to ring them. Drop them a quick message via their website and they call you back...

That reminds me that it's imperative that you have an issue written down on a service document as proof of the date of first complaint.

Some service reps are inclined to brush things off as normal but most manufacturers will want documented proof of first complaint.

Is Redex 'approved' by Skoda, or any other additive, for that matter?

As far as I know it's a long-gone brand out here......a REAL blast-from-the-past!

Yeah - I've got documentation from its first visit to the dealer so hopefully that'd be enough to prove its been on-going.

The no-fault no-interest side of it seems very bizarre. I got the distinct impression they hadn't even lifted the bonnet.

Probably not! But they probably only recommend one specific brand of fuel too, so you know - worth a shot.

Skoda does mention in their manuals that you shouldn't use any fuel or oil additives.

I'm sure you'll be fine, just don't tell anyone!

Outside of fluid leaks it's basically an electronic world we live in.......a quick look to see if the 'caps' are on is about all they can do in a 'diagnosis' sense beyond the obvious oil leaks.

Hi

My 140

I  have the same engine but in auto. Today mine cut out suddenly. Would re-start but cut out when put into D or R. RAC mechanic blankedff the EGR and the car ran a normal. Got us to the Main Dealers. They've since phoned to say "no fault recorded". I'll post update when I know more.

Hi

I collected my car yesterday. It been on "extended test" but hasn't replicated the fault whilst with them. The RAC mechanic didn't record any live fault codes either and it stalled on him at least 6 times.

During it's time at the Main Dealers it's covered over 100 miles, so has had a thorough test.

The garage have changed the EGR valve even though they couldn't see any obvious fault. Apparantly VAG are aware of issues with EGR valves across their entire range. They are collating evidence to see if there is a pattern to the problem. I was told mine was the first with DSG to fail.

I think that the garage, Horton's in Lincoln, provided a 1st class service. Looking at the numerous emails between then and Skoda it doesn't look as though it was an easy decision to get them to agree to the work being carried out.

You don't live too far from Lincoln, perhaps it might be worth a call to Horton's to see if they will take up your case. If you do, ask for Mike in Service, he seems very knowledgeable.

Best of luck, I hope you get a solution.

Well - after several weeks of driving it around very carefully, today it finally conked and gave an engine problem light! Skoda assist came out and did their usual computer wizardly - low and behold, EGR valve failure.

Not impressed that given that they know about this issue, they wouldn't think to test it in the first place.

Lets hope they can fix it this time!

Sticking EGR valve would be my guess.

BOOM, back of the net :D

If it does not fix it, and I hope it does. Consider borrowing a camera, video known situations it occurs. If it's as often as it is, then it's bound to get captured. Then at least you can show how it's happening.

I had a Check light, RAC roadside could not clear it. Had to drive it in and out of limp mode for 100+miles. Woke up next morning, no check light...despite RAC report of light and fault codes. 5 mins on the phone to SKODA I got an appointment, and a new sensor.

So I sincerely hope it's your EGR and you can get back to enjoying it. But if it does not solve, some evidence of it happening can sometimes help to trigger a thought. Seeing is believing, hearing is just hearsay.

Good idea - I mentioned doing this to the garage last time it was in as I have a GoPro but they didn't seem to keen on the idea. But if it's still playing up then I'll do it and send it to Skoda directly. Just got a lovely top-spec VW Tiguan delivered ass courtesy car. :-)

Hopefully, this is my final update. Got my Yeti back this afternoon. Never been quite so happy to be able to drive economically without fear of a splutter and stalling. I believe that the part changed was actually the EGR cooler (unsure if they changed the whole valve as well). It's running very smoothly now and seems to be a damn-sight faster than I remember (probably degraded performance gradually).

For anyone thinking that they might switch to the VW Tiguan as their next car as a 'bump-up' from the Yeti - don't bother, it doesn't even come close.
