Does Columbus have a security code?

Featured Replies

Just wondered if ever the battery was replaced in the car would the Columbus need a PIN code or security code when the new battery was connected?

I know some car manufacturers use them and others don't, (My previous Lexus didn't use them when i replaced the battery on the car)

If it does then where would i get the code from as i can't seem to see anything with it on in the manuals that came with the car.

I belive it's built into the ecu to recognise it

I think so, got to go with original car to Skoda dealers.

So are we saying that if the car battery is ever replaced the Columbus will just work afterwards or that if the car battery is replaced a trip to the stealers is required? (It's a standard factory fit Columbus by the way).

It will work as it is definitely stored in the cluster. A code is only needed if you swap it out into another car.

As mentioned, yes it does have a code. no you won't need it unless you want to sell the unit on or transfer it to another car.

If you replace the battery the code is sent via canbus from the instrument cluster to the headunit.

Thanks guys. Don't need to replace the battery or anything but thought I'd ask while I thought about it in case of any future battery issues. ;)

I can vouch for this being totally correct as I had the battery out of the car for an hour during the week. Reconnect and the Columbus springs back to life as soon as switched on.

I did get warning lights for stability control and power steering failure, but they went out 50yds along the road as the system checked itself.
