Bummer! As you say, at least you are OK. I expect it will be a write off, doesn't take much these days due to the high cost of repairs on a modern car!

Hope you have GAP insurance or your insurance policy does new car replacement!?

Ouch! Glad you are ok and glad that the car did it's job in protecting you from injury. Hope the insurance sort you out a nice shiny new one.

Glad to hear you are ok....

Wouldn't count on them not fixing it though :-( I know how you feel though, but hope it all gets sorted ok

Share your pain.. November 26th my octy 2 was written off, octy 3 being picked up this Friday...

Well vectra was even worse shape. I manage to take whole his front with me. Hood and wings, bumper. Car is already at dealers lot. Gonna see them tomorrow. I have normal insurance pluss super insurance (i dont know how its called in the uk) that covers car when its stolen, burned down, vandalized, also free windows if one broke or get a rock chip. Also covers 40 euros a day for replacement car. Will see tomorrow whats its going to be. Its just sad. Drive ad carefuly as you can. But hey its just a car. There was 4 people in vectra and they were all fine too. Keep you guys posted about progress.

In UK they'd fix it. I had 2010 l&K, at 11months I got rammed from behind when in a queue. Needed new Shell, tail gate, back doors, bonnet, front wing etc etc. They were going to repair it but, the zero vat was still on, dropping the new cost £3000. When I mentioned I had Gap cover the insurance assessor said, don't bother them, we'll agree a new car. So I didn't need to use Gap, seems just saying the word to an assessor frightens them.

I'm glad no-one was hurt.  Like you say, it just a car, after all.

It goes to show how well designed these cars are when they look after you like this.  Imagine the same crash 30 years ago in a car of that era.....  Doesn't bear thinking about!

Damage is as follow. Front left fog light broken. Front left headlight broken. Front left wheel totally moved 15-20 cm backwards basicly rubbing against driver door. 3 airbags deployed. Engine wont start. Gears wont get it. Fuel filler flap doesnt close. Front left wing totally folded inside of the car under the bonnet or somewhere. Front bumber is broken. Washer bottle shattered. Bonnet is bent. Looks like hefty repair bill, but see tomorrow. Hope its a write off.

Considering how much movement has happened with parts I'd be surprised if it wasn't a write off like others have said. If anything I'd be worried about unseen damage to the chassis due to the impact speeds. Hopefully you will be getting a new car out of the situation rather than the worry I'm sure it would cause to you about having to take the old car back after a repair. Plus there's all the issues when you come to move on from the car when you come to sell it knowing it's been damaged and repaired.

Went to dealers today. Filled out all nessecery paperwork and documents. Got a replacement car. Its vw jetta. They say they gonna do some calculations about possible repair cost. I said i dont want fixed car. Becose it will never be same agan and it is hard to sell afterwards. On my insurence i have elite (premium) insurace and that includes a point where it says thath car value remain as it was bought brand new (22k euros) for one year. That means when the car is write off insurance cover 100% of the car price. So its good for dealer and for me. Fingers crossed.

Glad you hear you are covered for 100% costs. I'm sure the dealer will make it more costly to repair than replace as they effectively get a new sale out of it :)

I really do hope so.

If one of the wheels has been pushed back like that, id say that's the whole axle knackered, which has by the sounds of it caused a lot of damage to the full drive train and engine. Hence your engine and gearbox not liking it.

Obviously its a lot worse than I first thought by looking at the pictures.

As the front wishbones attach to the subframe I would imagine it has shunted the subframe which the rear engine mount attaches to. This will require some repairing. However if the insurance company don't write it off and its properly repaired it won't affect the resale value of the car as it won't be recorded. I've seen new cars that are only a catD write off with horrendous damage.

Hopefully you get a new car out of it though as I wouldn't want to have my new car repaired as it wouldnt be the same to me.

Very sorry to hear this. :(

Had a burglary just a month ago and they took both my cars from my driveway...

Anyway my car was found a day later involved in an accident with similar damage to yours and insurance covered it full, they said not worth the hassle to repair so hopefully yours thinking the same.

Hope the outcome will be good for you!

If they decide to repair it i wont accept it. Ill give it back to lease company. For now theres nothing new right now. Seems like the most hit was the wheel part. Will see.

For mine they decided to write off after they checked under the bonnet and shell. If suspension and engine needs replacement or fixing, you are in a good position for write off.

Well i looked under the bonnet after accident. Accident side was pretty beat up. Battery was on its place. Washer bottle was broken. Engine shut off after accident immideatly. So seems like the hit was hardesg on the wheel part. Im sure the hit went through the fishbones and all undercarrige parts. Whole shockabsorber is bent towards the driver door. Side wing is totally obliderated. You can see the light beige color frame part aswell and its bent. Drivers door opens about 2/3. Not all the way. Doors left bottom is bent becose the pillar is pushing against the door. So basicly pillar or whatever its called is bent aswell. When the bags go off in octavia does it mean whole dash needs replaceing ? So does the steering wheel i suppose. Drivers and passanger bags deployed so did drivers knee bag. Im sure the hit affected the whole steering rack aswell. But will see.

It sounds like the subframe is bent, which basically means write off. It wouldn't be safe IMO after any repair if it has bent that.

Got back from dealership. Estimated repair is 12k euros. Thats estimate. Now its up to insurance companies. The guy who drive into me his insurance company send me email yesterday with a question what do i think my car is worth. I tell them well. Its fairly new and i suppose some range of 18-19k euros. Havent got answer back from them yet. Well fingers crossed. Hope they don't fix it.

If it's only 2.5 months old I'd give them the price you paid for it if it was a new car!

Also if it's a lease car (you said you'd give it back to the lease company so just guessing) I would speak to them first as they will have a value on what it's worth and you could end up paying the difference.

Ps: Sorry for your loss

Yes its a lease car. And i have Brand new car insurance. Basicly it means insurance will cover 100% of the car price what it was bought. In my case its 22k euros. So if car is write off i don't lose anything financialy. Just gonna order a new car and thats it. Lease company is a same company from what i have insurance from. So its easier for me to fill any paper work etc etc.

I believe that in most situations in the UK, if the airbags are deployed then the car is a write off as the cost to replace the whole dash is too high

Well apparently its not that costly here i suppose. Since repair cost is over 50% of the car value i have good feeling that it will be a write off.
