Rapid 1.2tsi 105 idle speed

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have noticed that in the recent cold weather my rapid can't seem to decide on an idle speed until the temperature gauge has reached normal temperature.  On start up it idles at 1000 rpm and this will then quite quickly drop to 650-700 rpm but will then return to 1000 rpm.  This happens even when the car is completely stationary.  If I turn off the engine and re-start the revs will be at normal idle (650-700 rpm) but will rise again to 1000 rpm as I start to move off (this is what I would expect) but won't then drop back to 650-700 when I come to a stop again.  Is something sticking?

My Superb does exactly the same. There is a current thread in the Superb MkII forum with some explanations including one from a dealer.

This would be normal then until it has reach operating temp.

Idle in cold weather seems more stable with ours, its hot weather were anomalies occur, such as 1100rpm on a hot restart and it doesn't settle until you've driven a mile or two; stopped at lights further down the road and idle is still at 1100  :wonder:

Mines up and down too. If I have the aircon on it idles at 1000rpm with the fans on. Switched off it idles at 850rpm. I think your idle is low at 650 to 700. Do you get any vibration at that speed?

Mines funny at cold start. Sometimes 1200rpm then sometimes normal 850rpm. Weird [emoji6]

I ve got a 1.6tdi and does the same when it was parked outside (mostely stands in a garage, at work too)

This morning kempt at 1000rpm, with heated seat on, aircon and defrosting the back window.

Temp of the oil was +/-80degres C and outside temp about -2.

Otherwise the stationery is about 750 to 800 rpm.

Mine goes up and down 750 1100 1000

Happens on all cars/engines.

Mine idled at 1100rpm the other day.

Then idled at 1000rpm today and settled down to 800rpm within a couple of miles.

650 when stopped and warm on mine too.  there is another thread about this with some surprises in - e.g. on a colder day the aircon doesnt kick in like it would on a warm one.  The makes the startup idle slower on a freezing day - when most would expect a faster idle from past experience. Also the 650 is only when stationary -  if moving it idles above 800.
