Fabia Heating Problem

Featured Replies

My 2003 1.4 Fabia Estate (LHD) has a heater problem. It seems to behave normally at lower temperatures but if I turn it up to say, anything over 22°C, it seems to get stuck "on" and roasts the car occupants. We then need to drive with the windows open! Turning the temperature control down to minimum is in-effective. The only way to break this situation is to park the car and let it cool off. The engine temperature gauge registers "normal" at all times through this problem (except when the car has cooled off, that is). Any Ideas?

Sticky flaps.

Thanks Y bugger U. That was quite a read, but filtering out the relevant from the red herrings I would agree with you that I've got Sticky Flaps. What to do about it is the question. The consensus seems to be that the valve is not easy to get at.

One thing to consider, as your car is LHD, it should be easier to reach the flapmotor assembly as that was the default configuration for this model. Try looking on youtube for guides for replacing the temperature flapmotor.

I've got a problem with the heating since I've got the car, but never managed to solve it. There is no 'hot air' blown in the cabin even after 3h of driving. The HVAC diagnostics shows everyting as fine, even ran a couple of times factory reset. The fact is, when I turn the heater knob, there is no difference between full middle way on red. I am planning to replace the cabin radiator, since it might be clogged. Anyone had this problem before?

Had it with thermostats. Get any hotter as you drive and colder as you slow down?

I have the exact same issue as too.

I've tried using vagcom to allow the system to relearn the flap positions

I've tried to swap the motor over

Upon further use of vagcom,  I could see that it's actually the temperature dial that's faulty -  Only full hot or full cold.   That means for me I needed to get a new panel,  which is apparently £200 from Skoda

It sounds like this is a sticky flap.

Page 97 of this document covers removal and reinstallation: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33563039/Aer%20Conditionat.pdf

Note however that they recommend you dismantle the entire dash to access it. There are a few guides on here about how you might be able to get to it, for example remove the glove box, remove the central console, remove the lowest segment of the centre console and remove the passenger footwell pipe. But even then, it's fiddly as anything!

I tried to replace my flap motor THREE times and kept getting motors with different connectors, so I then gave up.

Not really, it's just constant this is getting me frustrated.
