Yeti Rear Wiper

Featured Replies

Wife rang this morning to tell me that the rear wiper on her Yeti isn't working. I know that rear wipers on Octys have been known to go intermittent, anyone know of any similar problems on Yetis, please?

Boot shut properly?

Boot shut properly?

+1.  Almost always the cause.

Thanks all! Checked when she came home, seems ok now. Why does this make a difference, it's wired, not run by contacts in the body?

It's due to electrical witch craft. Control unit wants to see a closed boot latch.

If the boot is open and you are stood under or to the side of it then I'd imagine a face full of wiped water wouldn't be high up the list.

It also serves as a useful reminder to slam the boot harder :-)

Weird thing about the Yeti it will tell you if a door is not closed on the dash but says nothing if it's the tailgate. This is what I have noticed.

There is a warning for the tailgate on a Yeti; it's the White block in the rear of the vehicle on the display.

White block = open

No block = closed

It's not obvious unless you are looking for it.

Thanks for that. You're right it does. But as you said not obvious.

Also the interior lights do not go out if the tailgate is open

I have to say it.......................

RTFH!

:)

You could at least say it correctly. RTFM.

For those who aren't regulars it stands for Read The Flipping Manual.

Personally it goes against what Briskoda is about - helping and interacting with fellow Skoda enthusiasts.

Yes, but people could help themselves first by reading the literature that comes with the car instead of asking stupid questions that they ought to know the answer to if they could be bothered to read the instructions.

I'm not pointing the finger at the OP of this thread because as has been said, the maxidot graphic for "boot open" is quite poor and even if you'd read the handbook you might not realise it was trying to tell you it's open - but there are a lot of stupid questions questions asked like "why does my sunroof blind keep closing?" or "why is my fan still running and a smell of burning after I turn the car off".

So I do know where Graham is coming from.

Excuse me, it's an "Owners Handbook" so RTFH is quite correct!

And there was a smilie!

I'm afraid that outlook comes (quite naturally) from those longer serving members who get frustrated at seeing what to them is an obvious answer, but to others is not.

There is no such thing as a stupid question.

If it is as frustrating as you make it sound save yourself several taps of the keyboard and don't post.

It is also worth noting that many new Skoda's no longer come with a manual (or hand book, even though it has always been RTFM not RTFH).

I have no issue answering basic, obvious, repetitive (or "stupid" - really?) questions, it's my choice and I like helping those in need out where I can.

Really?

I know they no longer come with a Service Book, but others here have commented how the Handbook for the FL is just as confusing as the older model.

A few reports of this in the Octavia MkIII forum, could be isolated cases.

Skoda have been promoting their online downloadable manuals / handbooks for a little while now.

There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Only stupid answers.

Agreed.

To qualify my question!!

I have read the book, or some of it! It is a massive opus and takes a lot of taking in.

At the point that I asked the question the book was in the car, about 5 miles away.

The question was asked on the basis of knowledge - that there has been an issue with the rear wiper on the Octy, so I thought it reeaosnable to ask if there was a similar peroblem on the Yeti,

And, just as a follow-up, if newer owners are puzzled as to why the tailgate so frequently doesn't seem to shut properly, or takes more than one go at it, there's a simple answer.

Just make sure there's a door or window open - just a matter of air pressure (like the old Beetles).  Another indication of a well-engineered vehicle.

It's due to electrical witch craft. Control unit wants to see a closed boot latch.

Used to be known as Syscon (System Control) in my video servicing days. CPU (ECU) goes through a check list to see if certain things have happened and will only let things work if the check list says "GO".

This forum is also about fun....Graham's comments were clearly meant in jest...lighten up folks

.....and for what it's worth I don't always side with him!

Really?

My FL certainly came with the unfriendly handbook. March 2014 but I suppose that more recent ones might be lacking as it seems to be the "modern" way of doing things.

Many years ago I had to write user manuals for a major TV rental company (anyone remember TV rental?). I always used to ask my wife to proof read them on the basis that if she could understand them anyone could! What I'm getting at is that it is easy to confuse non-technical people if a techy writes the document, he/she has assimilated knowledge that the end user does not have. Therefore KISS Skoda UK etc.

With this in mind, and not to cast any doubts, is the OPs wife aware that the rear wiper IS intermittent?
