Well I know some stuff but by no means an expert. My advice would be to try a map disc reload and see what happens then.

Does anyone know what is the significance of the A in partnumber 3T0 035 680 A.  Is that a hardware revision code?  I have seen A through P and there are probably more.

A is not the revision code just a newer part number than without and older than some of the other letters you have seen. It is around the 2010 mark I think and new enough to not worry about the revision A limitations you may have seen. You can go to 4120 firmware on www.rnsfirmware.com

@Adamal: Is there any good reason to go from SW2864 to SW4120?

It'a tiny bit faster, a tiny bit more responsive, has radio text and, the biggie, 7-digit postcode search.

 

If you don;t want radio text, go to 4020.
