Flat Bottom MF Steering Wheel

Featured Replies

Not a full on shuffle steer though.

Passing it from hand to hand yeah. In a sort of, long way. But shuffle steering is abit far haha

Nope, it's a full on shuffle, left down right up and all that. Watch the plodsters on traffic cops, they drive like that. The only occasion you are "permitted" to hand over hand is say for tight parking manoeuvres where you need to be able to spin it really fast, but in normal driving, one hand must be fully gripping the wheel or you will fail.

Ahh for normal driving, its 9-3 for me. And it stays there. Haha.

Unless its a really tight slow corner of course.

You'd best keep the original steering wheel for when you eventually sell the car. I reckon 99% of car buyers would not want a flat bottom wheel in a normal road car.

My dad had an Austin Allegro ( he doesn't like to be reminded of it ) and that had a steering wheel which was flat at the bottom, top and both sides. On the plus side it was the only thing on the car which didn't break! Took a bit of getting used to!

I was wondering about the flat bottomed steering wheel as an option on the Yeti I'm ordering.. It's the one from the Monte Carlo. However no one seems to know if the wheel is actually smaller than the standard Yeti one. If it is smaller I'd take it as an option as I love the go-Kart size wheel on SWMBO's Pug 2008.

Anyone out there know the size... It really is important to me. (And to SWMBO! )

It doesn't give the dimensions but looking at a picture of one fitted suggest it's proportionatly the same size.

Skoda couldn't give me dimensions, but they gave me a dealer who had a Yeti Monte Carlo in stock. I rang the dealer who checked the size... The answer is what you suggested... Diameter is the same but the flat base reduces the height by 1". This is perfect for me. I had the same on my RAV4 and am used to the slight "wobble" as the wheel spins Bach through you hands!

.....spins Bach.....

Do you still have a gramophone? :)

It only plays 78s! As these are hard to come by I have been using my crystal set for entertainment!

Flat bottom is so much nicer. At first the flat spot annoyed me but you adjust to it and doesnt bother me.

I also have one in my Polo and whilst I think it does look good, it has no practical benefit.

I noticed today that the chap giving me a lift from hotel to the meeting place was in a cooking Octavia, and it had a flat bottomed wheel! Allegro!

I havent ordered it for looks.... I've only ordered it so I can get my leg under easily!

If you have fat thighs then its a win win.  Assuming you still have both legs.

The Allegro "Quartic" was more than slightly different

At 6ft 7in my legs are very long, hence my problem.

As I said in a previous post my dad's Allegro 1750 was very quick.... Unfortunately the bits could not keep up with it and kept falling off! The car was what's commonly known in The Trade as a "Shed"! The steering wheel was strange to be polite.

I loved the flat bottomed steering wheel I had on my RAV4 hence my order for one with the Yeti
