How to open a stuck rear door?

Featured Replies

Hi there, one of the rear doors (driver's side) won't open. If I pull the lock up and try and to open the door, the door won't open.

Is there anyway at getting into the door to release it please?

Many thanks!

Smash into the lock mechanism once door card removed to twist gear and unlock

Lock the car then press the unlock button whilst giving the door a few firm thumps below the handle.

Failing that its prise the door card off and smashing things out.

I done this and it worked to my amazement!

I'll try!

Many thanks!

Plus one on the keep pressing key fob and bang the door with your fist need the mechanism location (whilst outside the car). Then lube the mech up once you have it open to stop it happening again. Worked for me too.

Good luck

Ok - have tried the above (after being out sick for a while) but didn't work (not 100% certain I got the banging on the door right) - but still couldn't get the door open .

I'm now trying to get the door panel off from the inside, following:

http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/octavia-mk2/body/body_work/trim_noise_insulation/door_trim_panels/removing_and_installing_the_rear_door_trim_panel/

I've got to the last step ("Unclip door trim panel -1- from the door and take it out in -the direction of arrow") - I just can't see where the clips are located? Any ideas please?

Thanks!

I think they just mean the clip is it's fastening along the window. There's no clips up top, if you've undone or (probably in your case) prised the torx screws round the door, you just push up from the bottom of the panel (hence the arrow) holding the sides. Don't lift it out as you may crease the top of the door card. You may need to give it a hard shove. When it's come free unclipped the handle and you're done.

They may mean those torx screws are the clips, like any say, if they're undone push it up.

Apologies for the shocking typos my phone is trying to be clever.

Have you checked the wiring between the door and the car? Canr believe people just go full on without checking the basics first [emoji52]

True, do check that if you haven't already. First thing I'd do if card does have to come off is lube the hell out of the mech and double check handle cable and that it is secured properly.

Thanks for the reply - still not certain! As I can't get the door open I don't think I can access the Torx screws? So, do I just push the panel up from the sides?

Really appreciate the help and advice!

Great idea thanks! The door won't open even when I pull up the locker thing on the top of the door - so would it be the wiring (as the other rear door won't unlock with the central locking too - but I can just pull the thing up and the door opens fine?)

Cheers!

Torx screws will have to be undone to allow you to push panel up. But as the door is shut you're probably going to have to prise the torx screws out and replace their clips. As said above though do some other basic checks before you rip things apart. The door card will probably stand it but fastenings may suffer. Wrap a cloth round a big old flathead to avoid too many scratches when butchering the panel.

Ive had to replace the loom on my rear door twice because the wiring broke. If you open your front door you can access the wiring that runs threw the rubber tube between the door and the car

I have a door that is locked and no battery as I am stripping it of bits, all doors opened apart from rear passenger side which seems to be stuck in a locked position.  Managed to remove the door card completely, now destroyed so will have to replace.  Now what?  Pulling up on the pin does not open the door.  The handle outside will not open the door.  I can physically access the lock, is there some manual way to unlock it from this point on?

@sammyhale30

How did you manage to wreck the door card?

Get a stanley knife, and cut open the (surprisingly soft) plastic lock mechanism shell.

Once open youll see the gears that spin to lock and shoot the dead bolt. Get 2 small allen keys. Use one to hold the big gear you can see, and the other to turn it. I cant remember which direction. Its spring loaded, so need to hold it, thus 2 keys. Once its wound all the way back it should release the lock.

Then strip the whole thing out, note the thread count on outer pull handle cable (wont open if you get it wrong on reassembly)

Put a less than 30quid ebay pattern lock mech in and reassemble. Check the thread count and function before you close the feckin door though...

I got a crowbar on the door card and as I levered it off it just split down the one side on the door closest to the hinge...

maybe I should have taken a different more gentle approach... but I was peed off so just went crazy!

Jaysus...

2 torx screws down the bottom, pop the grab handle cover off, take out the big screws there, and the tweeter from beside pull handle and window button iirc.

Take out the seat squab

Then pull hard and fast from the door pocket. Shouldnt even break a clip..

Then lift it up over the window frame edge...

Good luck with the lock..

Just unscrew the top screw of the motor and then pry it open with a screwdriver

Don't waste time trying with alen keys, just put as much gearing and motor out as possible and then get the screw driver to pry the latches open

Takes less than a minute once the motor is opened

anyone any instructions on how to fit a complete new lock mechanism once i have removed this faulty one?

Its even pinned ;)

That's for replacing the micro switch.  I need to replace the rear passenger side door lock/latch.

Unbolt it.

Once the door is open and door card off its easy enough, the tricky bit is the small torx to to get the door handle off but its all quite self explanatory once its opened up
