vRS - road rage magnet?

Featured Replies

The S1 however is another story! No end of wallys trying to play or having clear jealousy issues.

The good thing is that considering the way you seem to drive, the car envy won't last long as you'll write off the thing soon enough. I just hope it won't involve anyone else...

  • Nope. In 19 months and 18K miles in my black Octavia vRS I have been on the receiving end of not one road rage incident. I believe it is driving style, not the car being driven, that incites road rage

  • I find the best policy is to be overly polite and non confrontational, happy in the knowledge that you could leave most of them standing but super smug that you won't descend to their level. Works al

  • You seem so proud of your behaviour that congratulations must be in order.  I wonder if the meagane driver had a family? Maybe a couple of kids?  Perhaps if he had spun his car as a result of your idi

Also unable to deal with critism. Being Very forthright and opinionated does not make your comments any more valid than anyone else here who will be equally disturbed by your herioc shortlived adrenaline speeding. You were doing the world no favours.

When I was more of a biker there were a continual stream of cars up for a challenge. They (the car drivers) all had the pleasure of accelerating (painfully slow) past my sports bike. No I did not get road rage or have point to prove. I did that on the track only.

I reiterate what bitchi states.

Don't get yourself worked up over opinions of others, but, unfortunately I sense this worked up angst is what's causing these episodes on the road for you. Other drivers can equally (or more so) be at fault but one should not always lay blame elsewhere.

Wear black shirts bit of day glow hanging off the parcel shelf .Mine is tsi white/ black pack, the eyes over the steering wheel behind back off !!

Some of the stuff you read on these forums in unbelievable. Some of it makes me think lots of people are a lost cause! I was going to add you know who you are, but actually, I bet you don't!

And a Stinger .... In case they dare to overtake you?

Brake testing gone wrong (Warning NSFW language)

Holy ....

I thought brake testing was flicking the brake light once to scare the person behind you. This is outright criminal..but that's pretty much how the incident played out that I described earlier on (post here), though in that case the guy in front of me didn't come to a complete stop and waited for the inevitable crash...

Brake dabbing/stabbing to physically deter someone from driving too close is one thing. stopping a vehicle on what appears to be a 60/70 limit dual carriageway is bloody stupid unless there is damn good reason for it.

However you could argue the person behind the car hit was either driving too closely themselves or not paying adequate attention to whats going on in front of them.....Id be very surprised if the person who drove into the back of that poor guy didnt get done for driving without undue care and attention.

Im wearing of all the lecturing thats going on though...I appreciate talk of road rage incidents and 150mph accelerations arent going to bring out the best in people but I think its all rather easy to point fingers and make judgements from behind a computer/phone scree . Jose isnt stupid...he has a v quick car, was unfortunate enough to be tailgated by some **** who probably ought know bettwr himself, knows he sped, that its unlawful and am sure to a degree is remorseful that what transpired transpired. We are human beings, we sometimes do things that are regrettable or to others not conceived as being right but this is supposed to be a friendly forum where we treat one and all with some diplomacy. Im not suggesting dont have an opinion but mocking/being horrible to people isnt right either. Cut the guy some slack and lets move on....back on topic

Someone on pistonheads showing footage of someone brake testing not only were they done by the police but also had the claim for their own damage refused due to the clause that excludes deliberate damage

So what do you do when you are being tailgated by someone on a single lane road when travelling at the speed limit (GPS indicated)?

I have had this on a few occasions and really really hate it. If I am lucky then I am not far from an official overtaking point and I can go in the slow lane and actually reduce my speed to encourage them to overtake.

Once a guy refused to overtake and I mean he was really close (one car length at 110 kph). Not sure if he was on drugs or trying to get ultimate mpg.

I eventually pulled off the road at a truck stop to lose him and thankfully that worked.

There are some weird people on the roads in Australia. Remember the Peter Falconio murder case?

Skoda's are not particularly well known in Australia and VRS are not recognised for being particularly fast which is not unreasonable considering there are currently V8 6 litre Holdens (General Motors owned)and turbo charged 4 litre Fords available locally until they close in a couple of years.

The real dipsticks seem to want to drive the American Chrysler 300C (6.2l V8) which has a 'gangsta' image they seem compelled to drive to fulfil.

The French do this , sit right on your bumper refusing to overtake, I just wait until i can pull over , no point get heated about it

I had a ***** in a hired C4 Picasso (had the barcode in the window etc) tailgating me yesterday, more frustrating as I had my two young children in the car. I didnt react though...kind of felt sorry for the guy that he felt the need to drive that way in a MPV.

Had I been on my own in my own car though I expect he'd probably have jazzed me off a bit.
