Which diesel?

Featured Replies

Hello,

My Skoda Yeti is the first diesel car I have owned since 2009. When I have petrol cars I have always exclusively filled them with V Power petrol.

What diesel do people prefer? Does it matter to you? Will it make any difference to my car and driving experience?

Cheers

Diesels are a lot less fussy than petrols.

No need to run most cars on v-power either.

I just use 95 and occasionally a tank of 97 for the extra additives.

The ordinary stuff. Why waste money on something that isn't needed?

Just don't use morrissons diesel. It's a bio diesel and vag group Diesel engines really don't like it

My Yeti is on order but I used to havea Tiguan 140 DSG and I tried both standard and Superdiesel.

I only used "branded" fuel (I know some will say it's all the same but I had contaminated supermarket diesel once so never again.. Probably a one off but a few of my friends had the same issue from the same supermarket)

The Superdiesel is more expensive but on my 140 Tig is ran quieter, smoother and more economically than on standard diesel.

I worked out the extra cost was pretty well covered by the extra mpg so that's what I used.

Ok if you use supermarket diesel on offer it would be cheaper but I believe a car is very expensive and I always use the best oil and fuel as it's the lifeblood of the vehicle.

Currently using Shell Fuelsaver, as its the most convenient and about the cheapest in the area. Has been more than fine for me.

I don't get any improvement in MPG or how it feels with Shell V-Power diesel.

I use shell regular as it's as cheap as the supermarkets round me. I've tried v power but it didn't seem to make much difference to what I normally use which is millers ecoboost plus the above, which some think is snake oil but I think it makes a difference to both fuel economy and smoothness of the engine and only costs a couple of P extra a litre and is far cheaper than using v power. Each to their own....

My MKIII Vrs runs on Shell Regular,

Hello,

Thanks all - I have a Shell nearby and it's usually 1.2p a litre more than the supermarket so I'll stick with Shell fuel saver.

Cheers

V-power exclusively for me.

Diesel or petrol? If diesel why? (Would be good to know, certainly not suggesting you're wrong).

Morrison's diesel conforms to EN950 and contains 7% bio-diesel - exactly the same as every other brand of diesel sold in this country.(new regs in 2013 allows up to 10%, but afaik no manufacturer goes that high)

I've done 30,000 mile p.a. for the last 6 years, in VAG diesels almost exclusively with Morrisons fuel, without any problems.

Do you have any proof of your assertion, or are you just blindly repeating an internet rumour?

So is pretty much all diesel

I know tesco's also have upto 8% bio

Its that minute that it makes zero difference to the car

Ran tesco's diesel which includes bio in all my derv cars and work vans over the past 10 years without issue

Thought it was just supermarket petrol thats bad? Diesel doesnt make much difference does it?

Allegedly supermarket diesel is sootier and worser for your DFP.

Might be true might not.

Tbh I'd fill with shell derv if I could, but I can't so in goes Tesco juice.

When I had a petrol I only ever used Tesco 99RON, had no problems with it. Car felt awful on supermarket 95RON, like it was on 3 cylinders.

Haven't noticed any similar difference between a tank of Shell and Tesco

Diesel - I don't use any extra additives any more and the car runs smoother with V-power than supermarket fuel.

Double reward points too.

I think this supermarket fuel vs. shell is in most peoples heads.....

On a donkey diesel it makes no difference

Put a full tank of vpower diesel in and 10 bottles of millers ecoboost if you like. Makes absolutely no difference

Two friends are mechanics for 30 years a piece and are quite regularly getting vag group cr Diesel engines in with engine issues from regular morrissons fuel users

Bit of a thread revival. As I'm now looking at getting a new ish Octavia vrs I've read through the brochure over the weekend and on the page with the engine stats it states on there fuel types on the bottom of the page and in that it states no biodiesel. Now I would read that I shouldn't use it as it's not recommemded

Do not buy 'Bio Diesel' then,

But you will have to buy the Diesel UK Filling Stations sell with the Percentage of 'Bio' now added by EU Regulations.

EU Manufacturers of Diesel Cars sell cars to the UK which is part of the EU really build cars that run in the UK with

the fuel that arrives here mostly from mainland Europe.

all diesel sold in the uk has a percentage of biodiesel (think its upto 8%)

and it doesnt matter to your car

100% biodiesel then yes you have a problem

Shell bring it into the UK with the shared facilities they have with Greenergy, who supply Tesco, Esso etc,

http://greenergy.com

so do you believe the actual Secret Additives / Detergents are actually worth the extra pence per Litre,

or are you paying for their Advertising and Sponsorship?

Standard Diesel vs Premium like V-Power is different, but as for 'Cooking Diesel' meeting the Minimum Standards

is hardly formulated in a different way, or at different Refineries / Processing Plants.

Run a 2014 VRS tdi and only use standard diesel. Absolutely no problems so far.
