Because they can?

(Although not legally unless the weather and visibility justifies it)

Probably they can all be switched on once then forgotten about. Auto-lights will deal with it all for the owners.

I hate 'em but know a few owners and they love 'em.

RS Nisma well they are a ****e for sore eyes. Just seen a brand spanking new one. Holy crap. Special plaque on it as well. Saying something like guide dogs for the stupid available.

I like them as a motor but yes, getting fed up of having 3 sets of lights glaring at me all the time.

This isn't limited to the Juke, most Qashqai's have their front fogs on too.

I can only assume that they don't turn off/reset with the headlights and/or the in-dash warning is not very visible.

This is a disadvantage of these types of headlight switches, the ones on the end of the indicator stalk.

When the outer rotating column is turned from dipped headlights to off it drags the inner column round with it too, automatically turning off the rear fog light.

Unfortunately is doesn't do the same for the front fog lights, these are allowed to remain in the on position.

Even worse, if the outer column is left in Auto then the front fog lights will turn on and off with dipped headlights without any intervention from the driver.

In this case 'set and forget' is not good!

^^ I've said for a long time that car manufacturers are partly to blame for this rise in front fog light driving. Perhaps drivers shouldn't be able to switch on front fogs unless the rear ones are on? Might help to cure the problem.

Toyota Prius drivers are also high on the list for front fogs along with Juke and Qashqai, these are the biggest offenders by far.

Top: Sidelights

Middle: Dipped headlights

Bottom: Fog lights

Don't forget that the modern way is to look cool, and this apparently is very cool!

Urgh, thats explains it then, although there is still no excuse, I never had issues with my old renault which had the same switch setup. Making the fronts come on only if the rears are would go some way to helping.

The front fog warning light is actually quite visible, no excuse really then, must be deliberate...

Nissan Juke:

The lights are not even the same colour, looks really stupid!

This is why a lot of Juke owners retrofit LED bulbs into the sidelights together with bluer bulbs for the dipped headlights...

Well, as fogs are only supposed to be used when visibility is below 100Mtrs, why not have a programmed speed restriction for when they are turned on? That would stop a lot people using them.

Glad it's not just me who notices this ALL the time. They look so stupid with their 6 lights on, even in the middle of the day with out a cloud in the sky!

Nissan Puke

Act your age, Ken, not your (English) shoe size

Must get out the old cooper s with 4. 7inch Lucas spots on the front + the hella windscreen spot, oh and the 5inch spot on the boot.I suppose the more lights used the cooler the car looks if that's possible with a cash cow or puke.

That supposes that they know what the indication light actually means!

I'm coming to the conclusion more and more that people actually don't run this sort of lighting configuration deliberately. They just don't know what they're doing. Because they've never read the handbook or been 'trained' properly perhaps? So you have the 'turn on every light possible' approach, that more is better.

Not saying it's right of course, but does help explain the behaviour. Of course there's some that think it looks good. But thinking of most Juke drivers I see, I don't really think they're in the 'kool' gang!!!

I often see old people with fogs on, they must like wardy says just not have a fecking clue.

Thinking it's also to do with the Japanese stalk design mentioned above - think it's pretty similar on French stuff too. Just turn everything on, just to be on the safe side!!!

Or maybe theyre 'down with kidz innit'

Now you mention it I did hear a bit of lethal bizzle from one of them
