5hitty month and new headlight vibrating

Featured Replies

I've had a terrible month with an outlay of nearly £750 :rain:

First the window motor went – £250 fitted at Stealer because I couldn't go anywhere else in a hurry.

Two new front tyres – £200 fitted

Reverse switch gone – £125 fitted

Drivers side headlight adjuster broken so new headlight needed – £112 for the unit, £45 to fit

Driving back from the Indy mechanic this morning I noticed that when the car was stationary the light was vibrating (could see it in the car in front). When revs are applied it's fine. I had a mooch around the web and there are loads of Passat B5.5 threads about the same thing, with some saying the light needs to be flush at the bottom with the top of the bumper, and others saying the clamp has come loose.

Now assuming it's not the clamp because this is a brand new unit, I guess it hasn't been fitted properly. It does look to be fitted quite far over towards the wing, with a bigger gap between the end of the unit and the grille than I remember.

The Passat forums suggest unbolting it and repositioning it but I don't know how easy this is on the Superb. I should get the garage to do it but it's a PITA to get there and then get to work after, and then have to pick it up, drop it back home and get to work after :swear:

Has anyone else suffered headlight vibration? Is it easy to get to all the bolts and reposition the unit?

Cheers

Didn't you consider fitting them yourself ?

Didn't you consider fitting them yourself ?

Does my post make it sound like I did? I don't have a minute to myself with work all week and small kids to look after at weekends, so no, I didn't consider fitting them myself. We can't all be mechanic messiahs.

It doesn't sound like you've ever done it either though, otherwise you'd have some useful knowledge to impart.

Thanks for your help though, la
