Would love to be able to put in Optimax, but where I live on the Isle Of Wight we no longer have a Shell garage. I've always used 97 RON Super Unleaded in mine...but now I've just learnt that Super is going to be stopped over here as its not cost effective for the amount that is used on the Island.

Many of us have written letters of support to the garages that currently supply it, but we are not sure it will keep them supplying it to us.

Not such a problem for me with my vRS at the moment but will be a problem for those whose cars require 97 RON as a minimum on their cars...Paul

Sainsbury's Super Unleaded or Tesco 97 RON. Sainsbury's Super the better of the two and me cars like **** off a shiney shovel :rally:

Only the basic unleaded available here in Shetland and it is currently

hmm. new to sko's..does it really make any difference??? vrs octavia owner

Yes! Run it for a couple of tankfuls, then switch back to 95 to compare. When i did this I thought something had gone wrong with the car!

Optimax (or any higher octane petrol i suppose) gives more midrange on mine, and its quite noticable.

only optimax for me,but then the mrs sometimes"forgets"and whacks a tank full of rubbish in it.

not found any supermarket fuel above 95 ron in shropshire,or i'd use that.

A Briskoda Octy vRS owner in Shetland!! Excellent - what speed have you had on the Tingwall straight :D:D

Don't live up there now :( :(

There are a few other octy and furby vRS's here. I have only had a short blast down the straight when test driving it, been too wet and windy since I bought it to try it flat out, :( also plod is clamping down at the moment due to complaints of bad driving :thumbdwn: They caught 2 teenagers racing last week and there was a fatal accident at the weekend.

99 ron from tesco does it for me and it rocks! shame about the price 99.9 ltr

Just found Tesco 99 octane locally. Usually use BP Ultimate Optimax or, failing that, Optimax.

i try to get optimax as much as poss but tryig to find garages out with my own area is a pain so 95 does

your woman running sweet!!

markie octavia vrs 1.8t 52 plate

Optimax every time for mine.

I voted for Optimax - but it is dependant on the state off my finances! Often at the end of the month it might be Tescos regular...

Optimax for me everytime.

Still waiting for Shell to start selling 100RON V-Power. Tried the stuff in Europe and my VX literally flew across Germany. Austrian border to Nurburgring in 3 hours!

Is there a noticeable difference between using 95 and 98 octane fuel in a standard vRS? I noticed a small improvement in the low to mid-range on the Ford Zetec engines I've had.

I buy opimax mostly, go through phases. I can't help but think that if it mad a measurable difference then someone would have, well, measured it!

Fifth gear tried it on a few cars, didn't make machdifference to new golf GTi.

For those that feel a big difference when changing back to normal unleaded from optimax- that is to be expected. The engine ECU will take a while to adjust to the different fuel and will not run as well until it has changed it's ignition timing cycle. Once it has worked out what needs done the difference will be much less

I noticed the differance switching from 95 to super if i can get it Tesco 99 /Optimax or other Super

Supermarket fuel is branded stuff anyway, Sainsburys and Safeway used to be BP, Tesco is Esso iirc.

Shell and that Texaco crap used to do horrid things to my old Laguna, so I wont touch them.

Might go try a higher octane fuel though, I havent as yet, didnt think they'd make much/any difference.

In the focus I have always used optimax if I cna get it, otherwise splash and dash! Will have to see with the new octy, as it was mapped for 95 iirc.

Evo magazine have done a test which is some very interesting reading!

Read it at the weekend whilst visiting the outlaws in Inverness. Very interesting read. Unfortunately the super-dooper huge 24/7 Tesco Extra in Inverness which sells everything from wallpaper to wine :D only sells boggo 95 octane so that's what Darth is drinking at the moment :thumbdwn: :thumbdwn:
