First thing- got my springs today from courtesy of the GB and Jabbasport. Thanks very much to everyone involved with that, dead straight forward and of course a nice discount

In the box there are two thick ring type things-

Me and a mate are going to be fitting the springs, so need to know what these are! Any ideas?

Oh and heres a sneak preview of the new alloys ive got aswell (Whoops didnt realise the pic was that big)

I never had anything like that with my eibachs, from memory. :confused: Just sat in the cup as the OEM springs did. Not sure if its any way related to the top of the springs though.

They have a small grub screw, so they must tighten up against something....

Might be to do with bump stops. The diameter of the hole in the middle looks pretty similar to the bore of the suspension strut itself. Like I said, nothing came with mine like that. Edit: Actually after looking at carpet grain, they look tiny! I'm still befuddled then.

We just spring clamped the old springs, undid the top, put new springs in and did up again. Rears were a doddle of course as not part of the strut.

The inside diameter is about 20mm so they are quite small (sorry- naff picture really) Ive fitted springs alone on my previous car and like you say they're a direct replacement for the old springs; with no other bits to add.

Might have been put in the box by mistake..??

Just had mine fitted by Jabba yesterday with a remap and the transformation is fantastic! So much more confidence into the corners! Ride is only marginally worse IMO and it looks soooo much better -25mm down!

Eibachs on standard dampers (TDI)

Eibachs on Eibach dampers (Pro-kit ones)

FK coilovers

Dave, can I make a suggestion? Could you ring Eibach UK and ask them what these items are? The number is 01455 286524 and ask for Julian Gill or Rob Hodgson. If these parts are intended to go with the springs, then everyone who's fitted Eibachs without them will want to know! Perhaps you would be kind enough to let us know what Eibach say. Cheers.

Right just given them a ring and the lady knew exactly what I was talking about (Even before I said anything lol!) She then passed me onto another tech to explain.

They've got something to do with the steering- on a lowered car there's less room under the arches so could restrict the steering in some way. I wasnt told where they fitted to or how.

Eibach have put them in the box really to cover themselves in case there is a problem with the space under the arch. Tbh I dont think its anything to worry about- you lot have had yours with no problems, however he did say chassis differ slightly from car to car.

I'll just fit them and see what happens.

Sounds like they go around some part of the steering mechanism to decrease the number of turns before you reach the end stops (i.e. your turning circle is increased slightly.)

Could be wrong, though...

i`ve just been fitting my eibach springs and didn`t have those things in my kit. Just the springs. No probs of clearance anywhere.

I'd be surprised if it was needed, mainly as there are people with coilovers that are running WAY lower than with these Eibachs -

But that is a semi-serious answer. When I was running mine lower at the front than I have now' date=' I had rubbing when I cornered at speed on good lock. basically the way around it was either slow down or don't lock over so much.

Now I've raised the front to protect the guardless sump, I don't get any rubbing issues at all, and I'm sure I'm still an inch(ish) lower than eibachs alone do?

Mine will get the Eibachs springs/dampers but it won't be lowered any further than that - mainly as I kinda want to avoid going even further down the spending path :P

Me to, springs first, see how that is then maybe later dampers to, seems that some poeple on here have reported good things about having just the springs.

Yeah - from what I understand the springs will cause a little bit of a drop, about an inch, due to the way they're wound. Should sort out the handling very nicely, and I'm really hoping it will stop the front wheels from being quite so jumpy under braking.

There is a stretch of road just before the first roundabout you 'hit' when going into Bracknell (from A329(M)) where for some reason the yellow 'slow down' lines have not been painted, but instead 'cut' into the road surface, so it's a lot more bouncy than it should be. Kinda thinking it will help a bit there (must say it must be a nightmare for bikers, as it gets very slippery).

The dampers should be a little better than standard but mainly they're designed as a set, dunno if they are more adjustable (but I won't fiddle with that anyway).

Im stuck fitting the springs. The bit where you have to hammer the hub down to get the strut out. The hub wont go down far enough to get the strut out even though the strut itself is loose.

Any ideas what im doing wrong?

Yeah try following the guide on here. You have to compress the spring so you can shorten the damper and they lift it out.

The propper hub spreader makes it easier to lift out aswell.

I'll second that!! With the hub spreader you can also get the Eibachs in without compressing the springs.

What a job that was. Fronts took pretty much most of the day and backs......half an hour if that. Im not gonna even tell you what we actually did to get the struts out in the end- cowboy-ish 'springs' to mind (Nice pun ) Got the nice chap at ATS to take off the old and then fit the new springs to the strut for a tenner.

I did have the guide to hand :confused: Anyway its done now The car looks great, doesnt look like its only been dropped 25mm- might be the wider tyres filling out the arch more?? Been for a quick test drive and much the same as everyone else's opinions on here

If you didn't have the hub tool then I would imagine a good hammer and chisel would have been the main part of it. :P
