How is it longterm?

Featured Replies

Hello folks,

I was offered a new role in work; one that would require a car, so I was offered a payrise to cover the monthly payments and the new role will involve about 50miles a day driving (all slow/normal speeds though so nothing taxing on the car) so I went off and started looking at cars.

After much debate with colleagues and friends I eventually took a citigo over an I10, UP! and the new Suzuki Celerio (the one that just got recalled.)  This will be my first ever car, which is very exciting!

Although I would have preferred the elegance I went with an SE greentech after I got offered a very good deal on it.   I picked up the spare wheel and entertainment pack ontop of this (mainly after reading threads on here) and I ended up with a PID and servicing as part of my deal.

So how is it day to day?  Does anything grind on you after a while?   Is the greentech actually worth it?  I mainly got it because the garage offered it for very little extra and I figured I might be glad of it down the line.   The only issue I thought of was that a usb port would have been nice.

Im really looking forward to getting the car in March and now i'm getting it regardless id like to see if I overlooked anything!  :p

Thanks guys!

You won't be disappointed, it's a great car and if you drive carefully you get loads out of the fuel tank in the city (350+) you could always buy a duel 12v socket and/or buy a 12v usb to plug in if needed

Just got an SE in white. Love it. Got the PID too. If you need a USB charger Asda do them for a fiver (dual). Get a micro sd card and copy all your iTunes on like I did and slot in side of PID.

Thanks guys :)  I didn't even know they made those!

The only thing I would change is the car colour, the green is great or white would have been nice, but I went with the free red, it was too much money for a colour!

The red is brilliant; it adds 10mph to the top speed and knocks 6 seconds off the 0-60 time!

I have had my Citigo elegance Greentech since March 6th 2014. It has been outstanding. Averaging 60mpg, and 13,000 miles later still no issues. Overtaking is fine even in my 60bhp model. Spec is undoubtably my favourite thing about it. Hope you like it!

Got mine in August 2013 and drove 18000 problemfree km in it, absolutely love this car, if I should buy a new car today, I'll choose the same car, model and color :-) :-)

Thank you very much folks :)

Can't wait to get this,  I got a great deal and think this will be a cracking first car.

It does amuse me that I have ended up with a brand new 15 plate car lol  I had expected to end up with a 7 year old fiesta or something, but when you factor in insurance etc a brand new car on a pcp was just cheaper.   Weird, but shant complain!

Great news. You will enjoy it [emoji106]

There's some good deals around.

Just over 16k miles on mine (2 years old next month). No problems to really report. Had a recall for ecu update. Went in for petrol smell but nothing sinster was found and has been fine since. Suspension is starting to clunk a lot in the last few months. I go over about 80 speed bumps Monday to Friday so that probably doesn't help.

This week it failed to start, only firing on 2 cylinders, but by the next day was fine.

I would without a doubt if I wanted a little city car get another one.

I've had mine since September and had my doubts as I've come from larger more powerful cars but can honestly say it's a cracking little car that's not missed a beat :-)

Thanks again folks :) just reinforces my view that this was the right car!

Did any of you guys take the version with the higher horsepower?  I went with greentech instead

I have had my car since march 2014. Driven about 30 000 km (about 19 000 miles) on it this far. I can't say there is anything at all that I am not satisfied about.

I have had only one problem that is related to the car itself - the passenger airbag switch. This was replaced without question a few weeks ago.

The over all experience with my CitiGo is it is light, manuverable, easy to park where others must give up, it consumes little fuel, low insurance fee, and low priced from the dealer.

The CitiGo has advantages that larger and more expencive cars doesn't hav. First off and most important, my car is fully payed for.

When I visit my dealer from time to time, they ask every time if I am happy with my CitiGo. I must confirm that this is the best and most practical car I have ever owned.

So if you want to use the brain when buying a car, don't spend a fortune on an expensive large car. You often loose more money the first 6 months than the actual cost for a new CitiGo.

A car is nothing but an expense item, even if they are a must to have available. So spend some time figuring out what you are willing to spend your money on. Debt and insurance on an expensive car, or have the freedom to spend your savings on other things?

Good luck with your new car :-)

EDIT: I have test driven both 75hp and 60 hp Citigo. I cant tell if there is any difference at all at normal driving. The acceleration is feling the same, you cant drive faster than the speed limit anyways, and the 75hp version consumes a little more fuel. No reason why you should have a 75hp car if you usually drive alone. Maybe useful with the extra 15hp if you have one passenger. I have the 60hp version. My family of four have no problem traveling in this car. I might use the 4.th gear on uphills to keep the speed, but other that this, there is no point spending those extra money on those 15hp...

Vidar

I normally drive my GreenTech with fuel economy in mind, but when I have decided to take on much more powerful cars the Citigo has performed amazingly and feels like a go-cart the way it clings to the road when driving fast round bends. A small, nimble car is brilliant compared to heavier, bigger cars and this nimbleness more than makes up for the (on paper) lack of power! I'm usually not beaten!
