Silverline Polisher

Featured Replies

It's a heavy rotary, damage that can be caused is burning through, especially on edges.

Hi all - Was just wondering my dads got a Silverline machine and i want to use it to polish my car. Just wondered if the machine is DA or Rotary? Does anyone know?

My car is also the black vrs - how much damage can i do with a rotary if i do it wrong?

Hi Aaron

Its a Rotary Machine Polisher

I guess you havent used one before

May I suggest that you get some hands on advice before using it, as its easy to damage your paint in inexperienced hands

Alternatively....For just over £100 you can buy a much safer Dual Action (DA) machine, pads and polish

Better still, in your case I suspect, get a local Detailer to show you how or pay for it to be done

This machine crops up a lot as its a very cheap deal - but as a rotary; easy to do damage for the uninitiated!

Its a heavy and cumbersome model and not really the best starting point my friend.....

Best to look at a good DA starter kit which will be easy to use and give great results!

A DAS6 Pro is about £100 delivered. Unfortunately you are not going to get a full kit for your budget. Keep an eye out fir a used machine on eBay, Gumtree, Detailing World etc.

What about something like this ...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DUAL-ACTION-ECCENTRIC-EXCENTRIC-ROTATION-CAR-POLISHER-ELECTRIC-Set-2-710-W-/361209264853?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5419bffad5#ht_11413wt_952

Are these cheap kits not worth the money as something to practice with?

I can't recommend it as never used it & not a UK supplier. Get a scrap panel from a breakers yard or car repair centre. Scuff it up with a Brillo pad & practice on it with the rotary.

Good idea that like! Im just scared of swirl marks burning the pain ect ect ... my paints not that bad at the minute i just want it uber clean haha

It really is better to save up and buy a better one, with pads and polish incuded

I recommend the DAS -6 PRO...pretty safe for a beginner and powerful enough to aid correction

Failing that..then that one will do, but as you get more proficient yopu will want a better one

If just applying light polishes and glazes, then it will be OK

To get a decent starter kit you are looking at circa £150 for a DA, polish & a few pads. IMO don't buy cheap, buy a reputable machine which has been tried & tested.

This may be of use http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=207877

Which is exactly what I said!!

I use one too, and as said it is pretty, cumbersome and heavy.

The upside is you'll soon have guns like Ronnie Coleman after using it.  :D

Shop n'Shine do some offers - and i think there is a discount code....

Also drop a message to Simon at iShine Car Care - he often does deals on request;

and doesnt always have the website uptodate - but he is only a one man band - so to speak.

Both places have gone out of their way to sort me a deal when i approached them!

I started out with a Silverline Rotary and it is big, heavy and difficult to control at first.

If I were to do it all again, I would start with the DA but that said, I never encountered any problems as I did my research on how to use it properly and purchased a scrap metal panel to test it on (once :giggle: ) before trying it out on my car.

Results will be quicker with the Rotary, but as already advised by the very knowledgable above it does come with big risks for a newbie and will be VERY easy to cause you further problems.

Then youll be Ok with the eBay one

I've got the original DAS6. It's a little underpowered but will do you a job.

For me, the rotary polisher isn't a fire breathing dragon. You would have to be really careless to burn through the clearcoat with one. Like NM says above, just be careful around the edges of the panels and don't hold it still, just keep it moving at about 1 to 2 inches per second. Look at the tutorials on youtube and you will be fine. Start with the least abrasive polish and you won't go far wrong.
