no noises and springs all in tact. been told it normal :shurg:

Ok . . . Update

fitted New Genuine MAF sensor today and it's back to full life. cant beleive how it just suddenly failed though!

Also replaced the alternator pulley as the belt makes an aweful squealing when steering on full lock and slight acceleration.

easy job but not much better! still getting the squeal! guess it may be the tensioner judging by the way its bouncing around on idle?

https://vimeo.com/125258603

and the wishbone bushes have arrived ;)

Yes, the pulley normally kills the tensioner when it goes.

Started with sorting the suspension yesterday.

after doing the coilies last week, I went to get it tracked up, but the track rod nuts were seized solid and the garage couldnt undo them, even with heat.

I spent an afternoon over the weekend trying my upmost to unsieze them. I managed to, but the nuts were badly rounded and chistled at. I thought the worst was over bemut I then found the track rods were seized in the track rod ends and no method I tried worked. I then went to halfords and got so 'shock and freeze' spray which didnt work very well, although has worked since on smaller nuts and bolts so guess the task was too large to expect a simple spray to help!.

Yesterday I went to local part dealers to get some new track rod ends and a couple of new nuts, the to Argos for a budget angle grinder and set about cutting a slot in the track rod ends, hammer and chistled to open up the ends then used WD40 to helo free it off, took a while but worked a treat.

Sorry for some blurred images, The S4 really does struggle to focus at times!

I then set about replacing the rear bushes on the front wishbones for 'Problem Solving Bushings' poly bushes, less than half the price of powerflex, and easier to fit, just hope they last as long

out with the old

and . . . .

in with the new

today, I hope to finish the replacing the drivers side . . . .

wishbone bush

driveshaft

and adjustable drop link

And hopefully get it tracked up on friday.

Will update more later and hopefully do a tutorial for the bushes ;)

Good write up! I replaced my Octavia 4 week's ago with a Bora. 2001 115 ajm 91k and had limp boost problems. Cost £12 to fix the problem mr muscle and 2 egr blanking plates. Good luck with yours. An excellent choice.

UPDATE

So, got everything sorted and all went well.

Fitted new drive shaft, poly bush and adjustable drop link.

took it for a little spin down the road to check all ok, only problem is steering wheel is off centre but that'll be corrected when wheel alignment is done.

Heres a few pics

I'll make a tutorial on the 'How to poly bush' over the next few days and report how theyre doing.

Had the coilovers on for a week now but still had a 'CLUNK' when braking in reverse, I thought this was originally due to top mounts but as the noise was still there I decided to poly bush the front arms.

it has seemed to cure the clunk from drivers side but passanger side still does it. ive had another look and now seems the ball joint is on its way out!

also thought id double check the top mounts fount what appears to be splits or weak spots

passanger side

drivers side

d37b33dba0d9f4d20ee2d1fa22bd096c.jpg

heres a video of the drivers side whiles slight turning the wheel sidr to side, appear the mount is allowing the stut to move side ways!

http://s872.photobucket.com/user/corsacsri140/media/20150423_195753.mp4.html

Ive replaced the top mounts today with KYB one from local factors, £10 each and the osf ball joint £15. didnt have to remove strut, just undone from above then when raised the car, the strut lowers enough to remove the top mount and bearing. ive used the new nuts which came with the fk coilover kit, things seem to sit much better. ive rang around a few fk dealers today and ive been told theres not a spacer as suggested. Ive also shortend the drop links in hope they no longer catch the driveshaft

went for a little spin round the block and no more 'clunk'. feels firmer and steering has a better feel. Hopefully get it track up tomorrow

Only a little update, nothing special. got the car tracked up and all is good.

started to make progress on the wheels

0f61df81cdadf0c83e262e8307c23c1e.jpg

not revealing too much at this stage, but cleaned up with wire wheel in drill, ground the kirbing out with a poly disc in the grinder, then used 120g sandpaper working up through 240g, 400g and here its at the 800g stage. next will be 1500g, and 2000g before the polishing begins ;)

made a little more progress on one of the wheels today and im so happy I just couldnt resist sharing it. I wasnt going to show this untill actually finished but here it is painted black and 120grit stage :D

bit of an update . . .

Been to wales on hols, got back on the friday then did a 70mile trip to my sister in northhampton and the clutch pedal gave up just 500 yrds from her house!

956e961e977d143c05f097a594bfd731.jpg

had to get dragged back home! :,(

6efa2ec8b002f2143c42a85e9d9ff6b6.jpg

£40 for new pedal, and the usual 2 clips, the clutch master cylinder rod was slightly bent so streightend it out and fitted the pedal and all is good.

and Finally ;) . . . . got them finished

4e4ac8d61938aed7b6da3806080ad2b1.jpg4b0d6fbb823ff7bdde14cbfdd4fdc346.jpg7a406d6fa1812fe7f695f2663b720522.jpg542536459e88c73b7e98e70cdebf2f0e.jpg

decided to laquer them, got the new tyres fitted and ballanced today. then applied some alloy wheel seal. Think they wound suit a different colour car better but they'll do for this summer i think

Snap! My clutch pedal broke 2 weeks ago as well. Just welded it up though as same thing happened on my mk1 Octavia. Also brought an Audi tt pedal set from fleabay for £7 including delivery from China and has all the genuine vag logo's and part numbers on. Wheel's look great!

Im not quite struck on the wheels. something just dont seem right. I think it may be the red? . . . I think the wheels would suit a dark coloured car better. this isnt the look I wanted although the I imagined the wheels would work well, I just dont think they suit. will give it a week, if im still insure . . I may offer them up for swap / sale

It may be the lighting, but on my monitor the boot and back door look a different shade to the front door, and the front wing is different again, getting darker as we work forwards.

  • Author

the front wing and door is a different shade of red to the rest of the car, the sun just makes it look 10x worse lol

  • Author

Not too happy, seems laquer may be flaking on the wheels already! unless the autoglym ally wheel seal puts on a fine laquer like coating?

in other news, ive redone my wing mirrors as the silver didnt really work! lol

bf29193578dd64ee6dbb0634f13479f4.jpg

also ordered some bits today

vcds lite and lead

ecu remapping / flash lead and software for a diy remap, Although I'll likely by the map from either Blacksmoke or diesel doctor.

and nsf driveshaft as my inner cv boot has split it the joint is rather dry!

Right . . . Had a mas few weeks without my phone as it had some software corruption preventing me from getting a signal so ive been making do with a ALCATEL onetouch! Haha. Sent my S4 off for repair but they couldnt sort it so gave me a replacement S4 which went back within a week due to other faults, now theyve gave me a note 3 at no extra cost so im quite happy with the outcome. Anyways back to business . . . Some pics youve been waiting for ;)

Complete with 10mm spacers up front and 20mm on rear, maybe looking to swap the 20's for 15mm as theyre a little to wide for me but look much better

Also . . .

5e104b4d4ea3ec7aad46d258d730aa58.jpg

Finally got the cruise control on. Activated with VCDS and it works a treat.

Had an mot last week, passed with 2 advisories both of which I know about. Inner track rods and front pads wearing low.

Also done a DIY remap, got the map from diesel doc but not very happy with it, took 3 weeks for him to sort the map and still not how i want it so waiting for a refund to go blacksmoke ;)

The car is looking pretty much how I want it now.

Future plans may include

Sorting the 2 tone paint on the passanger door and wing

Boot lip spoiler

Lower front 5-10mm more

Swap rear spacers for 15mm ones

Some light smoke tinted windows
