buying a new vrs has me sh****g it.

Featured Replies

Hi guys not posted up in a while. We sold our old shark stage 2+ octy 2 and realy wish we never. Wanted a bigger diesel car as we had another baby, so bought a blackline estate. The car is 62 reg but never realy gave us the pleasure the old car did. Its nice but not as good on fuel as we thought and although its no slouch it sounds **** and just doesnt go like the tfsi, its an oil burner I never expected it too, but thought it would feel more like a real vrs than it does.

My missus has always loved the fabia vrs mk2, we woukd of bought one but at tje time needed a towbar and couldnt fit one.

Theres not much warranty left on the octy and we both want something more fun, my missus says she doesnt want an estate anymore and as the kids are bigger a fabia is plenty big for bombing about in.

I managed to find a moon white with black magic vrs with 20 miles on the clock, it was bought as a demo registered in October so 64 plate, and never used. It cost 17500 with a grand of extras. We are trading the blackline for it with £1500 their way, and getting basically a new vrs and getting free servicing, tax, tank of fuel etc.

It makes financial sense as we own a new car outright for not alot of money on our part.

Im worried, very worried about the oil thing. Im guessing this will be one of the newest last built fabias out there, are the oil issues still ongoing? Should I take any action now whilst its still practically new? Havent collected the car yet bit before I do ive asked that all recalls and updates or software be done.

Advice on this would be great as im litterally loosing sleep. Sorry for the long read!

I would stop panicking and enjoy the car

Keep a good eye on the oil level and if it's a user let the warranty sort things out

It will be fine - it will have the latest and fully resolved cthe engine fitted.

I bought mine new back in dec 2014 - pre reg and 2 weeks old. 20 miles on the clock. Moon white with black pack and nav etc. Mines the combi model.

Mines on 1300 miles now and is a great buy. I only paid £13400 for mine though! It was mid december and they were needing the sale figures so I guess I stuck lucky on the price front.

I actually asked a similar question when I got mine

Here

even 'if' it has an oil problem there still a great car to drive

anything you buy could be faulty, as said thats where the warranty comes into play so just enjoy

Thanks guys, its a real roller coaster this so far, im up one minute down the next. The oil issue definetly worries me, although it shouldnt because of the warranty. Ive had like 5 years trouble free motoring in octavia vrs's realy hoping this wont break the cycle. They seem like a real fun car to own though, cant wait to get it out for a spiriteef blast. Whats the consensus for running it in, just flat out from when I get it or wait the first 50 miles?

Just drive it properly and it's fine. With people here constantly going on about it being an issue is enough to get anyone down. Just accept that the engine uses oil and you have to check it and that's it. Most performance engines do anyway. They like a good run so try to drive it as much as possible and just enjoy it.

I didn't run mine in , drove it hard from new but only once it's up to 70 degrees oil temp , it's a cave and doesn't use a drop of oil although it did for the first 5000 miles , my mum has one as well and hers uses about 1 litre per year , I still have the same 4 litre can that I use for top ups for both and its four years old now

It is hard when you hear all these horror stories on here but most people only come on here when they have an issue

seems like a lot of money for a vrs I've seen 2014 model's go for 12-13k

Seriously don't stress! It will be fine :)

Thanks guys im realy excited about the car but your right theres so many horror stories its enough to pee on anyones bonfire.

The price is more than others we saw vut its a skoda approved used, and has the least miles, still had the wrappers on litterally. Its a spec and coloyr combo we would of chose too, and i haggled a service pack and a few beer tokens as a sweetener. Got a tank of fuel and 6months tax. The octy needs tyres soon etc so all things considered its not a bad deal realy.

as long as your happy, and once you plant ur right foot you will be, thats all that matters

My 14plate CTHE hasent used any oil during its 5600mile life :-)

Mines coming up to being a year old and 8k miles, oil level hasn't budged!

15,000 miles on a 63 plate and i've still got the original 250 ml bottle of oil in the boot that was supplied with the vehicle and it's virtually full. got mine from new and made sure it was run in nice and easy for the 1st 1000 miles. even now i don't boot it until the oil temp is up past 75 c. Have only ever used Tesco momentum fuel also.

Enjoy it!

I realy hope ours runs as good as you guys ones do. Gutted ill need to leave her standard for a while though, id love a cheeky wee shark map on it but warranty is more important. How do they compare in terms corsa vxr and renault sport clio etc as in both cars flat out off your favorite roundabout?

I also own a 450bhp+ b5s4 im actually builfimg a new forged lump and hoping 550+, these cars are gtr killers with the roght mods but that gtr box is just so slick the old b5 looses so much time changing gear. Will the dsg and better power curve keep the fabia infront of the renaults and corsas?

Hahaha id hoped that was the case!! Why is people seem cool with the fact the gtr has a auto box and thats one of the reasons its so quick (other than the obvious) but when it comes to the fabia people slate it and call it all sorts and poopoo it for not being manual and diesel like the mk1 etc etc, its a 1.4 and holds down the bigger cars in its class and thats not good enough for some?!

Many people are still stuck in the past when it comes to any auto box .

In just over a week all three cars in our household will be auto's it would have to be an excellent manual to draw me back , can't remember the last time I drove a really good manual

the dsg is by far the stand out thing in this car for me, i will certainly miss this when it goes but its on my shopping list next time when i have a bit more cash spare

im also of the opinion if cash was free then both our cars would be auto, one thing the yanks got right imho, there cars might suck but auto box's are the future

Yeah but the dsg is nit a conventional auto that the yanks use....they are slush box autos with a torque converter. The dsg is different to an auto and to a manual or even an smg type. Dsg us a twin clutch automated manual.

Tgats why its so good as ut can shift quickly because the software can choose your next gear becire you dk and have it selected ready to swap onto the drive.

A lot oc those stuck 8n tbe past are thinking of the lethargic slush boxes i reckon.

I wouldn't worry about the pace of the Fabia. You have the S4 for thrills and it will seem like a slug in comparison. :-)

Old fashioned slush boxes maybe but people are stuck in the past with opinions of those. A lot of modern computer controlled tiptronic boxes are almost as good as a DSG , in fact in some ways (eg pulling away, parking) they are better and are often more efficient that manuals

Its just a shame because I bumped into several threads mostly on pistonheads and they ripped the wee fabia vrs apart for everything from its looks to the dsg and the engine. But the same bunch of people would say different thing about other cars that are auto only. I suppose some people are just full of ****.

Re the s4, yeah I dont expect the fabia to provide those kind of thrills but the s4 is certainly not a car you can nip about the town in, and certainly not boosting it, besides its dead for now until I get the new engine together so ive got some time to get accustomed to the fabia.

Common theme on pistonheads , the most vocal critics usually end up owning a 15 yr old Mondeo and slate everything
