Pondering a service !

Featured Replies

OK, the car will be 12 months old on Sunday, its got roughly 11k on it (and it hasn't asked for a service yet so, I presume its set to variable) and I got 3 years free servicing when I PCP'd it for 42 months so, do I

  1. Book it in now and ask them to switch it to fixed service intervals, this way I'll get 3 free services or
  2. Leave the car on variable service intervals, this way I'll only get 1 free service and don't expect to have to pay for one in the last 6 months of the PCP

Your thoughts/experiences would be appreciated

Get your three services, I think 12months is a good length for servicing and won't do the car any harm to be serviced more frequently.

Go and look what distance or time remaining is on the car

If its on a PCP with free servicing the dealer should have set it to fixed at the PDI. Not all remember to do so.

IIRC someone who had the 3 years free servicing had the same problem with tne dealer leaving it on the factory default variable setting and had difficulty in getting VW finance to pay the bill for his 1st service because he'd left it way past the 10k 12 month limit, so might be worth getting yours booked in pdq?

As above, book it in, dealer error!

If you have the 3 year/30k servicing technically they are 3 x 10k services I'm sure.

They'll probably still do you 10k service at 11k miles but do too many more they might refuse to do it for free. Rather a case of not using them losing them.

BTW my car came on variable, got swapped to fixed at its first service. Im going to use my 3 free services then get it swapped back to variable on its 30k service. Im doing about 10k every 5 months at the moment so going in for its 20k service at only 13 months old

Mine is on PCP and is on fixed service.

I would book it in and get it serviced.

Booked for Thursday 26th of February and its 10,843 mile to be precise.  Other than Sat Nav update, what else should I be asking for ?

Ask them not to wash it unless you like swirl marks :)

Depends on how they wash the cars.

My local Skoda dealer luckily has the best tunnel wash in my area. (Doesn't use nylon brushes that ruin paint jobs.)

I've been taking my Volvo there ever since it opened, since it takes off even the nastiest road grime (and trust me, it's nasty in southern Finland) without harming the paint.

You are lucky then, the local dealer to me uses one of those brushes on the end of a hose .....

Mine never gets washed by the dealer, the wifes CitiGo doesn't either.

Sponge and Industrial Truck wash.  We have had words in the past.

VW commercials get the standard apprentice grit wash too

With even larger flat panels to enjoy the swirls for weeks after :-)

I've just had mine serviced at 6500miles by the dealer as its coming up to 12months old. The car told me it was time for a service too. All free, I'm just waiting for them to replace my dipstick with the correct one as they somehow swapped it with another car

Just got mine back from service & when its stops raining I'll measure my dipstick for you Jules, sorry I forgot the other morning due to not feeling on top form, can't think why ?.  Can't tell with the rain if I have any more swirls than I had before but, having had a Citygo poverty spec for 15 miles of motoring I'm Fn glad to be back in an Elegance, I had to turn lights on last night and wipers WTF there, I'm a car snob just can't dress it up any other way.

I've also gotta give a shameless plug for the Camberley Service Centre (CSC), I'm just like most of you very quick to name and shame but, CSC did very well, due to being a Postman I needed the courtsey car about 05:30h and that wasn't gonna happen but, collect the night before no problems, drop it back off about 12:00h on my way home so mine needs to be first job of the day, no problems.  They gave me an advisory comment on the tyres at 2mm and told me which tyre shops they thought were cheapest in the area very good, they even shared some customer feedback about whos (driving styles) running what tyres on which cars.  I was really impressed with a decent, friendly outfit.

Get them (or you) to swap the wheels front to back (dont forget to adjust the pressures) - Should buy you a little time (and grip) whilst you source a set of suitable rubber.

Already swapped I'm afraid and the advisory was for the rears.
