About to bite the bullit on a Spaceback.

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Haven't posted on here in a long time - but I've found myself looking to skoda for my next Car.

So having spent the last week going through every Rapid post I can find and reading every review on the World Wide Web. I can't find any reason not to buy a Skoda Rapid Spaceback.

I've spent the last two years adding 50,000 mile onto a mk5 golf GT TDI it's time to change her.

So any last minute words of advice?

Troy

Obviously Diesel!

Worth trying the DSG gearbox as it is so smooth and if you spend many hours driving reduces the stress an strain.

i believe no penalty MPG wise.

Ensure you get the steering wheel controls and phone handsfree if possible

Keep the Golf [emoji106][emoji16]

Best spec to go for is the SE Sport (get the nice glass roof, plus nav, bluetooth, cruise etc.) and if your still doing high miles then obviously TDI, although for me I went TSI after testing both in 105PS guise; can just get away with petrol doing 14k a year.

Stormchaser !!

So Bitter ;<)

Bad egg, Friday car, dog, bounced Czech!!! ;<)

I know [emoji16]

MK5 Golf GT TDI with only 50K. I'd rather have that anyday.

Stupidly overpriced for the Spaceback [emoji57]

Sorry Stormchaser, I've been keeping an eye on your saga. Damn shame about your Car and your experience.

And I added the 50k to a used Mk5 and it didn't start from 0 :(

So she leaves me with 130k on a 2005 plate (3 door, dark grey and lots of toys. Gets me £2k as a PX prospect.

Found me a nice (fully loaded) Se Sport that is 4 months old with 8600 mile (link below if you'd like to offer your thoughts?)

The mileage puts me off (2k a month??) but as some of you said, I DO miles so I'm not to concerned.

Being from the north, I just can't buy brand new when nearly new offers such a saving.

Nice motor!

Hi Troy

Nice car you've selected there [emoji106]

The best colour for it too. It's a fair price really. Always best to buy pre reg to be honest as they have more room to haggle the price.

Good luck [emoji4]

Yeah drives nice, if "round the block" counts as a test drive.

Drove both the TDI 90 and the 105 TSI and they're pretty close.

Only curiosity is the 1.4tsi - I'd really like to see how that compares.

Think I'd not pay the extra for the Derv if I was buying new - but there are more TDI's out there on the nearly new market so they work out to be better value.

Not quite sure about the dealer, been to look at this car twice now and it wasn't washed, vacuumed out or cleared of possessions for either viewing (still being driven by one of their reps ((daily)).

Sure, it's probably not their biggest sale but it's still £13k, make an effort??

Yes agree it's nice to see s prepped car. The 64 reg Spaceback loan car was disgustingly dirty inside and out too. Bad really. That was a salesmans car. Anyway it'll clean up nice. The SE Sport is a good spec.

Yeah, you're right - I'm mildly obsessive when it comes to detailing my motors, so to see a prospective vehicle in a worse state than the car I'm offering as a PX was interesting!

Needs the factory lowering kit and I really hate every wheel available from skoda for the Rapid - so I'll be going to VW's back catalogue for wheel choice.

But looking forward to getting the keys for it. - Not that the dealer knows this yet ;)

LOVE the fact that it's a little unknown - never seen one on the road, and I notice cars.

Looks a very nice car and it's in the right coluor too not a fun of the wheels

Looks good, not many better looking Spacebacks about, and has most of the interior goodies too.

Have you seen the black Savio alloys for a rapid - they'd suit that red/black car.

Or even Rays in plain Black - not diamond-cut.

The mileage seems quite a lot, when there are zero to 300 miler diesels out there on autotrader below 13k, but the colour and spec you've found is well smart, and for me more attractive than the elegance or greenlines that are cheaper.

Thanks Guys.

I have seen the wheels that come on the Black edition which I think are the nicest that are available. IMHO. Not looked into their info.

But my initial plan and thoughts are a set of VW/BBs Montreal 2 alloys that came on the MK4 golf - they're only a 16".

I think they could work and there available for peanuts.

Or the flashier Audi TT comp alloy which is a 17".

Surely wheels wouldn't effect warranty??

With the mileage, are there any think I should be aware of?

Just as I think about it

I do know that the service is due in 800 mile, so that needs doing (and switching to Variable plan via VCDS) surely the dealer will do this as a part of the PDI. #haggletime

Tyres are probably going to be another consideration, I'll check wear on those today.

This car doesn't come with floor mats - has anyone found a better source than Škoda direct?

Right spec car and I'm sure it will come up nice once in your care. Not a lot to be done service wise at 10k and will be easy to switch to variable if it came factory set for that regime (most if not all UK spec are factory variable). Plus the oil grade remains the same fixed or variable with the diesel; petrol there are two separate grades.

Rear tyres should have very little wear, fronts on  the TDI may be down to half wear depending on how hard its been used as a 'demo'.

Parts like mats and mudflaps can be found much cheaper at superskoda, particularly when they have one of their 20% sales;

Would OZ aristos fit? (R32 Mk4 18's) - right bolt patern - not sure about offset

I do believe that the r32 wheels would fit, but I'm not sure the spaceback's lines would suit such a busy wheel.

If only there were some pictures available, I may have to acquire some photo shop skills.

My choice would be the red TDI 105 with your miles, plus its a Sport and they are better equipped than the Black Edition.

Notice its at Lambs, bought ours from there and they did me a fair and hassle free deal.

18's would visually shorten the wheelbase - the Spaceback has somewhat stretched proportions from the side.

Thanks all.

Going to Gordon Lambs tomorrow, so the dealer feedback is great to hear too.
