Anyone know how much it weighs, with or without tyre?

Am I right in presuming that an offering from OZ in the same diameter would be lighter than the OEM wheel Skoda offer?

Much lighter, you can actually feel the difference.

The chap I bought them of was talking several kilo's, can't remember now. Maybe you could pm him.

Is that in 16" or 17", for comparing weight difference?

The difference it will will make will not be detectable. So whats the point?

Having priced up tyres, me thinks 17" now....

Yes. Put Fish n Chips three times in your boot, wrapped of course and see if the car is any slower. If it is, then the difference in alloy weight will make a difference too.

I see what you are saying, but the wheels in question are standard Fabia alloy's and OZ superleggeras, both 16". OZ wheels are very very lightweight, and lifting one in each hand (furby alloy, and oz alloy) the difference is quite noticable. All comes down to unsprung weight, which has twice the effect of sprung weight, so I would have to put twice the weight difference in my car to do a comparison. Not only that, the suspension reacts quicker if it has less weight on the end of it too. Arguably a negligable amount, but nonetheless, a step in the right direction.

There is less energy needed to make and sustain the wheels spinning, this means the car should accelerate quicker. Like wise braking will be much better with lighter wheels.

Although I doubt you'd notice.

In the other extreme, There are cases of Americas using 22" spinners that weigh in the region of 100kgs with tyres, that are pulling themselves and hubs in some cases off because the car wasn't designed to take that much weight, secondly the OEM brakes can't handle them and overheat.

Fact is no one will really notice a quarter of a second diff in rolling acceleration times but,wheels will definately help this, the bigger picture will come when you add it up with all other mods.

There doesn't seem to be any info on the alloy itself either. I cleaned the OEM set this afternoon, ready for sale, and thought there might be some extra info inside the rim, but it seems not

Wardy they were originaly my OZ"s that u bought of Shifty, and (sad i know i weighed them) only on the bathroom scales but it gives you some idea. The original alloys and tyres were 2 stone 8 lbs. The superlegs and tyres were 2 stone 6lbs. By comparison the 18"s i used to have on were 4 stone each tyre and wheel. But still despite this i am now seriously considering 19"s.

I'm suprised that there is such a weight difference between 16" and 18"!

I guess exta Aluminium alloy weighs more than the extra rubber that you get with the smaller wheel, although 1.5 stone seems alot and we all know the saying to swimbo "The scales never lies" :eek:

I heard down the grapevine that for every kg of unsprung weight you save you get an equivelant 1 bhp (more bhp/ton) so save 10kg and you have 10 bhp more!

Simple and very effective.

This thread got me curious, so I weighed my BMW M3 19" rear wheel with tyre and it weigh's 21.5 kg's which is approx 3.5 stone.

The rear wheel is 19 x 8.5, I think, with 255/35/19 tyres so your 18"s must have been heavy ones!!

Yep, I heard something similar. So by my calcs, fitting Superlegs over the OEM Furby vRS wheels has saved me 3.6kg - so I proudly present my Skoda Fabia vRS PD133.6
