Dash cam power source

Featured Replies

I have a dash cam that I want to put in my car but the ciggie socket is on a permanent live!!!.whats the best way to install it as I don't want to find a flat battery if I forget to unplug it??

Would I be better trying to get hold of a twin switched socket if so can anyone recommend something??

Here's my install.....

Probably the best way is to use a switched live feed from the fusebox (The top half of the fusebox is perm live feeds and the bottom half is switched live feeds) so the camera gets power only when the ignition has been switched on as the cig lighter points are perm live in VAG cars.

the cig lighter points are perm live in VAG cars.

Maybe this applies only to Skoda ?. My past three VW Passats (two B6 models + CC) have all been ignition off, cig lighter power off.

Can the cig lighter be attached to the bottom half switched live feed?.

Caught me out when I got my Superb as I expected it to be the same.

Not sure then... My polo GTi, Fabia vRS and now the Superb have all been Perm live to the cig lighter sockets.

Get an add-a-fuse and piggyback the fuse for the rear wiper. Beware not all superbs have the same fusebox layout so use the onboard documentation to identify the fuse.

My Superb MKI also has a perm feed to all three 12v sockets...

Is the fusebox behind the panel on the OS of the dash where the door suts?

Thought mine said airbag there

on reflection, the meter man waggled a finger that way when we spoke about my last meter being in a Montego and needing the speedo cable chopping in half for a transponder to fit to drive the meter, he says modern cars are much easier

just pull......

ive got a 2 way 12v adaptor and a 4 way+USB adaptor to choose from and 2 mini-piggy back fuses on the way

My meter man didnt use a piggyback fuse adaptor, just a blade into a spare fuse then an inline fuse holder.

my 6 way adaptor wont fit so a new 2 way is on its way
