  • Back to this topic. I had the car on rolling road today and I must say that the results were very impressive. So impressive I nearly want to call BS on it myself.  This rolling road had very good fee

  • Mine is Revo stage 1 and yes I have had miss fire issues once and was cured with new plugs/coil packs but car runs well it was 211 at last week's RR session and I get reasonable mpg so can't complain.

  • Enjoy your new car. There are only around 3,000 Mk2 vRS in the UK, and hopefully all are now sorted due to the fantastic Customer Service from Skoda UK.   vxh26 does not have a Twincharger as far a

revo dont have the best rep on here with this engine..... as they have caused some problems, I know someone personally who's on here who has revo in... caused so many misfire issues, he set it back to standard!

many have used tuning boxes... I ran my old car for 50k with a TMC box on, at 199bhp without any issues.

It's not that long ago I was in discussion with a revo chap on another forum, claiming a new map for all CAVE and CTHE engines that would see increases of around 40 bhp on standard. One difficulty, aside from the aforementioned potentially catastrophic reliability issues, is that the likely projected increase is in fact closer to 20, if indeed that for some engines. Chap was using Skoda handbook figure of 178bhp as a baseline, but it is known that some CAVE engines run on Tesco Momentum and completely standard have achieved around 185 on RR, while at least one CTHE owner has saw 193, meaning increases are not 40bhp.

And then there are the issues with warranty, lord knows it's hard enough to get a good engine without potentially bursting it and the warranty that comes with it, at least that's how I've chosen to look at it at the moment. It's different with Ford Fiesta ST and Mountune upgrade which is manufacturer approved and keeps warranty.

Having said all that, I would prefer a good map than a tuning box, and if one comes along that is proven to be reliable I would imagine there would be a fair bit of attraction in it.

yeah.      A good proven safe map would be good, they are always better than boxes, but then the boxes haven't had any reliability issues, but then look at my graph, mine gave 199bhp..... not 220!

you are also right with base figures, 178 bhp is for the car in thin air on 95 fuel...... I have seen CAVE engines give 185bhp, and CTHE engines give 195bhp! If my cave had 185 as standard, 199 is hardly a massive engine breaking increase! I could feel it though :)

Mine is Revo stage 1 and yes I have had miss fire issues once and was cured with new plugs/coil packs but car runs well it was 211 at last week's RR session and I get reasonable mpg so can't complain. I think changing plugs, coils on cave engines early is no bad thing .

^^^ cool, always good to hear good results, and to be fair I have misfire issues when my standard plugs die every 10k...... (standard CTHE) so some new coils and plugs to cure sounds promising....

I am changing my plugs this week, for NGK 7's (which I have used to good effect before) :)

good power there too :)

Interesting. I personally wouldn't get my car remapped for many reasons but I was reading about revo on another forum and they seemed to think they were a bit tasty.

what coil packs and , plugs are people who upgrade running would be nice to get some upgrade ideas so i can keep my CTHE for the forseeable future , also with regards remapping damaging warranty do people think an upgraded intercooler will damage warranty as in fairness its just a radiator ?

Remap done = warranty on the whole engine gone. Each flash (writing) of maps is recorded in ECU and cannot be removed unless you change the ROM chip with a doctored one and that is fraud.

Aftermarket IC will affect the warranty of the engine directly but could be argued since it would increase the engine's performance thus increasing loads on engine internals. It might be counter argued that said (tiny really) increase in power is still within the tolerances - feel free to pay the lawyers (thieves) to argue :)

Just had the VRS revo remapped this morning. Running it currently on performance mode 1 just to be sure and avoid any possible issues. Standard plugs currently still in.

Not much experience yet, but seems to be working well.

Compared to stock there is a VERY noticiable pull when the turbo kicks in, it's like flipping an on/off switch, you go easily up to stupid high speeds :D

It's a good idea to search, search, and then search some more before going for these things. Let's say that REVO hasn't had the best results with this particular car. In any case, I hope all goes well and you keep enjoying your car but you can at least change the plugs! Has your tuner even asked/suggested this?

I did a lot of searching before going with Revo. There are local tuner options or APR or BSR.

I'm well aware of the feedback people have given here. Reason to go with Revo was that their supplier is well known and respected here and the power figures seemed good as well. They had a lot of experience on Ibizas with the same engine, and seemingly no issues.

I didn't want to put excessive load on the gearbox/clutch and APR seemed to do that by pulling 340nm of torque (these are marketing figures of course).

Revo in perf mode 1 should be giving around 200bhp and 270nm which to me seems good in terms of durability.

BSR probably could have been a good option as well, but there are no experiences on their remap on this car anywhere to be found.

The plugs, yes, they advertise it on their site as well that plugs need to be changed and Im going to do so next monday.

Well, If you did your research and opted for REVO fine. I do get what you say about the supplier and I will agree that he may be the best guy in the world but in the end, he's just selling the file REVO provide and if it is a good or a bad one he can't do much about it unless he is able to work on it himself. Anyway, let's hope they have resolved all of their past issues (because there's been several of those) and the maps are now working as they're supposed to, might as well be the case. I don't have the impression though that those issues were ever a result of excessive power/torque but rather badly written maps.

Did you happen to dyno it before and/or after? Always interesting to see the graphs.

Yea, you're right. He is just plugging the cable in and pushing a couple of buttons, at least I can trust that I get it sorted if things go south :)

Luckily the car has been rock-solid and not an oil drinker, I'd say max 0.5l during last 6K km (and it's CAVE)! So at least there are no issues that could be multiplied.

One curiosity was that, there was two new ECU updates since the version I had. So the official Skoda dealer I bought the car from hadn't been doing any updates on it. Didn't happen to ask when was the last one dated, so we could have had an indication when Revo as well maybe tweaked the software last time.

So far so good, and BRK7's waiting to be fitted.

Unfortunately no Dyno before and no after yet either.

on here APR seem to have the best rep.... when i do it, I will probabl;y go with them....

I think they stand out for me due to the switchable maps which you don't get with most maps.

Also, on the above topics of coils from earlier posts, is changing them just a case of better safe than sorry? Is it something worth changing before one goes in the future? How likely is that to happen?

the coils tend to die with repeated misfires, and i would uprate them and the plugs if I remapped.... mine is standard, and I have uprated the plugs , but not the coils...

How long should the coil last and which ones to buy to replace? Vw originals or aftermarket?

Yes mine ran fine for about a year then one day I was going for a big overtake and the missfire happened limp mode and fault lights . After switching off the car restarted normally so I changed the plugs first brk7s and tested it the problem remianed so I changed the coils to the audi a1 ones not had a problem since touch wood. I personally think these should be changed every 2-3 years small price to pay on this vulnerable engine.

We're did u get the Audi a1 coil packs from?

There is a garage who specialise in VAG and tuning with revo votex congleton v good and knowledgeable about these engines.

Has anyone had a map done by Apr to try and compare revo do a lots of good maps on Ford and other dealers just wondering if people are slightly judging by the odd case of misfire or are there maps not friendly with the vrs engine

APR are who I will be going with when the time comes....
