Anyone use Rim Protectors like Alloygater?

Featured Replies

Am curious to see if anyone here has used these types of products on their MKIII.

I'm thinking of getting them. They look like a pain to install but would be worth it for the protection.

I'd be looking at black ones, of course..!

I have posted quite a few times about these. Had mine fitted by local supplier. They certainty do their job. Down side is they don't resist damage much themselves, and I can't get a them cleaned up as well as they state.

The other main problem in my Vrs tsi is that on the front, they keep working out and I have to regularly tap them back in. Seems if it's driven hard, they come out quicker. This is probably due to the flexing of the tyre. I emailed Alligator, and all they said was, they probably weren't fitted correctly. But as it's a supplying dealer, I can't see that.

I have put up with hitting back into place with a rubber mallet for 10 months now. Will fit tyres with better protection when the time comes. But in the meantime, they do save the rims.

They look bloody awful and look worse the minute they take damage. Also they tend to harbour grit/dirt which damages the clearcoat on the rim anyway.

A neighbour has a red set on their red Audi S1 sportback....a lovely little car ruined by the red alloygators (that theyve already kerbed).

Waste of time in my opinion.....just take care and put the money towards a decent smart repair should the worst happen.

I have them on my winter wheels (alloygators).  They've taken a few knocks which might have damaged the rims BUT they stick out so far chances are the rim would've been OK.

They'll be coming off before next winter. To be honest they look awful and the damage makes them look worse. No problems with them coming loose but I don't push on, on winter tyres.

Usually run tyres will built in rim protector. Won't help a massive shunt up a kerb but have stopped me marking wheels for years now

Those saved the chrome rims on our Volvo on a couple of occasions.

I tried them fo a few months. They look awful and did not get between my creteris wheel spokes and a curb. Rge work themselves loose and are very difficult to reuse. I have not bothered on my new car.

Thanks guys for all the help.

Chris - I've just posted on that thread re the rimblades! Might give them a go at that offer..!

Corrected..LOL

Is rather hit kerbs and use the money to put towards refurbishment.

seen some come partially off it was a mess

Thanks duffer but what does the glue do to the alloy?

Mine are not glued on. Local tyre fitter put them on. You need to deflate the tyre and they fit round the edge of wheel. He said they were a nightmare to get on.
