Elegance or SE + options?

Featured Replies

- Elegance spec over SE adds loads of kit, Cruise, Larger Wheels, Sat Nag, High Beam Assist, Alcantara Seats, Colour Maxidot, Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror, Multi Function Wheel, Carpet Mats, Front Assist, Rain Sensors and Headlight Washers, so for an extra £10 a month, no brainer!

Couldn't agree more, hoping to pick my 2.0TDi Elegance up tomorrow, cost £8 a month more over a 3 year lease, so £300 extra cash over 3 years for all the goodies

  • I'd recommend the heated front screen, while worth it in the winter, It will be high on my list when I come to order my next Skoda.

Remember optional extras add nothing to the value of the car so, even though its a PCH think very carefully what you need   The interior and extra toys of the Elegance is worth a £10 a month as is r

I've got a 2.0TDI elegance. I love it to bits. Part of me wishes I went for the 1.4TSI but other times I quite like the torque and response of it in comparison to the diesel model.

I got the heated seats, heated windscreen and washer nozzles. I honestly love the getting in the car straight away, no scraping the glass when all the other saps at work are cleaning their screens in the cold. If you're going for the seats you might want to give consideration to the screen too.

When I got the car I debated the Elegance and SE models up and felt that the extra toys on the Elegance were worth it. If you plan to do any long journeys the cruise control makes it much more enjoyable so I'd weigh up what you're going to use the car for and if the extras you'd gain will be of benefit.

If I was you I'd go take a test drive and disable the front sensors if they are added, then try a bit of front in parking to see how you find the car. I found front visibility to be much better than many other cars so I tend to feel that it was worth not adding the option for the front sensors.

Cabin noise I find to be very good in the Hatch that I have compared to a host of other cars I've tried. I'll say you'd be mad not to pick the Elegance for the extra toys over the SE.

Better hope they don't read this or you may have some doggie doo or something similar on the windscreen.  There are some strange folks out there...some even think that people who are capable of clearing their own windscreens are saps.  Whatever next?   :dull:

1.4 TSI is £273 month, same options and maintenance so that's a no go.

I've emailed our dealer for a quote on the 1.4 TSI, it has to be at least £20 month cheaper. However I believe that the diesel uses significantly less fuel from cold during the warm up phase. Depending on how the petrol comes out monthly we may go for a test drive.

So what was the major reason(s)?

Price, and availability in terms of time. I didn't think the Elegance extras were especially needed (by me) and this particular car was on its way here when I ordered. It saved me a fortune to get the car before the end of October 2014, and this SE would fit the bill.

I got it on the interest free 3 year deal, free servicing for 3 years etc. The timing saved me having a major service and MOT on my old car, and no road tax renewal. And when I do renew this October the tax is half or less than my 1.8 TSi. Having driven it for 5 months now confirms it feels as nice as I expected after having road tested their demo car. Even the moon white has turned out okay, though originally I wanted non metallic red. But as said above I didn't want to wait for it - a Corrida red one would still not have arrived here!!

1.4 TSI is £273 month, same options and maintenance so that's a no go.

Is this for SE or Elegance spec? Seems like a lot of £££'s per month if you're looking at a 4 year deal on 10K.

Is this quote via a Skoda dealer - there's gotta be better deals out there.

If I was ordering again, I would stick with the Elegance but opt for 1.4 TSI over 2.0 TDI for the following reasons...

- Improved refinement for minimal additional fuel outlay

- No potential dpf problems

- Lower purchase price - I purchased rather than leased so appreciate may not influence the OP.

+1 Spot on, I came to the same conclusion and went Elegance 1.4TSI DSG but added ACC which is great and PA for the 12 sensors as I park in some very tight spots, and no, I have not yet resorted to the 'Girlie' functions  :notme:

The small difference in monthly costs made little difference and I am paying just under £170 PCM on 6k miles.

Hmmm... mine is less than that on PCP, have you got a quote for the 1.6TDI yet ?

Like others, I'm a bit baffled by that £273. Mine's (1.4 TSi DSG SE hatch) on a 3 yr PCP and it's £233.

The OP has loaded up the extras, these have to be paid in the term as they add nothing to the residual value of the car at the end of the term hence, it'll look expensive.

It's a direct comparison on price, 1.4tsi estate, elegance, heated front seats, front parking sensors, metallic, inc maintenance and tyres 6 + 47 10k pa £273, from the dealer.

Sorry my mistake, enjoy your new car.

Doesnt extras mean anything for second hand value in the Uk?

Doesnt extras mean anything for second hand value in the Uk?

The second hand market will add some value but, only if the extras are things a potential buyer wants so, if you have a £25k car with £5k of extras a buyer and a buyer whom only wants £3k of the extras it'll only be a £28k car depreciated by that age & condition is and NOT a £30k car deprecated.

However and what's important in this case, the OP can't put this car into the second hand market as it PCH hence, its residual value is the Trade price for the car and Trade prices are based on make and model only depreciated by that age & condition.

Mine is about £168 per month for 3 years, but surely the monthly figure depends on what you put down as deposit (including trade in car) and what lump sum you pay at the end if you want to keep the new car?

Might be worth trying to see if there's a stock vehicle which meets your needs rather than a factory order. That's what I went for and dealer took out price of metallic & lopped a further £890 off on that basis. You have to be flexible on spec/colour though.

The 2.0 tdi is a better drive than the 1.4 tsi in my opinion, and when I took my PCP out over a year ago the monthly repayments due to residuals were exactly the same.

We're looking at PCH (personal lease) so deposit is a factor of monthly payments i.e. 6 + 47 = 6 monthly payments down, 11 further payments in the first year then 12 payments per year afterwards. There is no entitlement to buy the car, although I don't think they would actually refuse my money at the end of term!!

Thanks for all your help, I'm going to have a sod it moment and get the elegance, front sensors, heated seats and canton, but save a touch and go for candy white.

Interesting to see that the TSI is £18 per month more so £954 extra including deposit, but the list price of TSI is about £1800 less than the TDI so residual of TSI must be bordering on £3k less than TDI?

Just took delivery of my 2.0TDi Elegance, only extra I speced was the spare wheel, very happy with the toys and gadgets and can't complain at the 43mpg I've got over 20 miles of driving in heavy traffic (average speed 18mph !!).

Paid £250 a month on a PCH of 6+35 with 15,000 miles a year, not had servicing or tyres, Dealer worked out that due to the variable servicing it was cheaper to pay when it's needed than add it to the monthly fee.

but the L&K has all these standard so maybe I'm messing about!

The Elegance spec has just been updated and now comes with Park Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control as standard. I think the price MAY have come down slightly too.

Nice car if you can live with that much brown in your life !!!

It has indeed been updated with these options - nice spot Aurial. Not sure the price has changed though.

You may well be right, I couldn't quite remember.

It has worked out quite well for me. I ordered my Elegance a couple of weeks ago. While we were building it on the dealers system both Park Assist and ACC showed up as zero-cost options. He said it must be a mistake on their system and added the £590 for Park Assist back on manually (this was the only option I went for).  He emailed me last week with an order update and I asked if it was now possible to add the ACC as I'd reconsidered my options. He told me that when he checked it is coming on the car at no cost. Since it's now on the Skoda site I've emailed him back today asking him to take the £590 off my invoice for the Park Assist too.
