vRS + Steel Wheels

SteVrs ... I live in the country, frozen cow p*ss is invisible and you have no idea you're on it until you're going sideways :) and some of the pot holes around here have dinosaurs in the bottom of them.

I'd give a set of alloys a month round here!

Me too - the track to my village is awful - If you drive to the conditions and with mechanical sympathy you'll be surprised how long you can keep tyres/wheels looking ok.

Jeez ... can't be bothered with that, fit steelies and put pedal to the metal :)

LMAO better swap to steel wheels and go slay some Ferrari's :rolleyes:

Maybe not Ferrari's but put it this way, my brother has put some very light alloys on his car 15" (Clio 172 cup), taken out the back seats and has a carbon fibre bonnet with k-tec exhaust system which is 6kg lighter. The car now weighs in at under a ton (he guestimates around 980 kg), with the bucket seats that'll be in next week he reckons it'll be down to 970, now with 185 bhp from his motor (exhaust, rsport ecu, induction) he is seeing 0-60 times in the mid 5's and 1/4 miles in the mid to high 13's.

The moral of the story is you might not beat a Ferrari but you'll keep pace with an STi or EVO to silly speeds and might even frigten an E36 M3...

Hang on, I thought we was talking about changing alloys to steel rims, not carbon fibre bonnets, no back seats, light bucket seats etc etc

I was trying to explain why saving weight helps, and the wheels are a major factor in this.

BTW, since we are being facetious I would like to point out a vRS can keep up with a 308 GTB Ferrari's which 0-60 time is 8.2 seconds and 0-100 is a lowly 17.00

Unsprung weight reductions apparently have a much greater effect than sprung reductions.

o no thats all i've got to say on that, just take it easy if you want to make sure the alloys make it through the winter

Damn it! After spying the photos of Tabs' Golf from the Southport meet, I have been on the lookout for a set of 16" Steels!!

However, at

Hub caps?

I know the stereotype Skoda pilot is a more mature person, but to see younger people describe wheel trims as "Hub Caps" does make me smile....

Next thing we know they will be called wheel embellishers..... :P

This is a hubcap......:D

Ah, hub caps ... I once had my fist in plaster for a month because of a Morris Minor hub cap.

Happy days :)

There is some discussion on uk-mkivs.net (my old home) at the moment with a few people fitting steel wheels for the winter. Personally I think it looks very cool and I have always been a fan of black/dark wheels.

Anyway' date=' here's a quick Photoshop of my Furby, lowered, with a set of steelies.

What do you think?

I think it looks cool too, only because it's black of course. Always thought really black steel wheels look good on the Fabia. Makin' sure it's dropped though..

Erm......

No. Steel is heavier than alloy.

Dude, with the amount of torque available in the vRS it really wouldn't make much of a difference fitting the steel wheels...my stock alloys are only a little lighter than the steel wheel sitting in my boot.

I know that Mil.... I was correcting somebody that said the steels would be lighter than the alloys.....:D

Oh okay....:gay:

I run 15inch octy steels with a 205/55 tyre no probs!
