Car in for service, been sent a video health check of it!

Featured Replies

I have just had my car in for a service at Mercedes. They have had the car about an hour and have just sent me a 'Video Health Check' of it's underside and tyre condition. The technician walks you under the car and points out whats not right and what is fine (everything Ok in my case :) )

Quite interesting to see how rusty certain bits of the underside of my car were :D

It's not something I have seen before and apart from being impressed that within an hour of receiving the car they have managed to post a video of it, I wondered if anyone else has come across anything similar? Perhaps it is already, or will become mainstream?

I haven't included the video link as it contains the reg of my car and I am currently negotiating to sell it

  • That's just it, the customer is paying for it. I'd rather they spent the time more constructively instead of filming the underside for 20 mins!

  • Our BMW garage does it too. Next they'll wash your car 'for free' as it'll be included in the £100ph+ service cost!

  • That's not personal data in the scope of the data protection act, and if you think that a garage noting down that your car stereo was tuned to five live is an invasion of privacy then your priorities

Audi do it, we used to do it at work too

What a brilliant initiative.Thumbs up to the dealer, will do wonders for customer confidence and trust in them

And soon after the pilot trials the UK MOT. Will be online and Webcams to VOSA and any queries on modifications from factory builds can be filmed and a tie up with a MIB can show if there is valid insurance cover on modified vehicles, noise, weight, and Obviously readings can be downloaded. It's nice to talk. No paper tax discs, all vehicle details on the database and picture evidence. About 2018 the Mots might be made stricter.

My exhaust looked very rusty though :D Might cause more panic than not seeing underneath :D I think what surprised me most was the speed of the video being posted and me getting an email about it. One hour from drop off to receiving an email. Pretty slick I thought :)

I like the sound of this :)

I have a service contract. Wish I'd hammered the brakes more now :D

Yep, my Skoda dealership does it too.. (Lightcliffe in Warrington in case anyone's interested).

I had my 40k mile DSG service and they do the video heath check etc for you, point out wear on the pads etc.. a brilliant idea if you're not the kind of person who likes to tinker or whip the wheels off to clean them etc.. sadly, I'm both so it wasn't much use to me! ;)

This is why I got a quote of £179 for an oil change, well 1st service, but that's all it is.

Really,?

i though SEAT would do a Roadtest, put it on the Diagnostic, do any updates or enhancements,

do visual checks, change the oil and filter, report, fill in the Body Condition Report, and reset the Service Indicator,

Vacuum & Wash,  even on a Minor Service.

And the cost of the expensive kit and training required to be a franchised dealer. Dealers go bust all the time, because they don't make the profits people assume they make :( Luckily the vid I was shown only lasts a minute and wasn't done by the tech working on my car

I know of a Nissa/Renault Dealership (Wellington Motors) that have been doing this for a couple of years now I think it's a great idea which i'm pretty sure will catch to most of the others. I asked one of the fitters what it was all about and he basically said to me it was to cover their asses, they have video footage of a problem and also it protects them if a customer turns around and say's since you've had my car this, this and that has happened.

On a little side note I also know of one other Main Dealer who records the Radio Station on the Stereo whilst doing their MOT's. I also asked the MOT'er why and he said it was so that they have a record of the most commonly listened to Radio Stations, so they knew where to focus their advertisement campaigns.

Yep mine too, Ridgeway in Newbury

theezenutz,

do you mean the MOT Testers at a Dealership  are 'Checking customers radios' and keeping records when they have a car in for a MOT to see the Radio Stations saved?

If they hold that Information Gathered on a Computer then they are in a bit of bother, because no Customer will have given permission

for that invasion of privacy.

I bet that will get you a few quid from a National Newspaper if you want to sell them that story and name the Dealership.

Only been into a Skoda dealership the once after getting my VRs to get a 2nd key done and pick up some new stretch bolts for the caliper carriers when I did the rear discs.. Thought it would be a 10 minute job at best so sat down to wait. About 2 hours later and I'm starting to boil by then and go and ask what is taking so long to code a new key. Tech comes out with new key and a bloody visual health report, to which I stated that neither was I asked or did ask for this to be carried out. Upshot was that the rear discs were in a bad way. No **** Sherlock, why do think I ordered new rear carrier bolts?.

'Up Selling',

or up their own or Financial Directors back side.

Fuel Injector Flush !

No,

i use the Prescribed fuel and were does a Fuel Flush appear in the Manufacturers Service Schedule / Guidelines

Engine Flush !,

No,

i pay you £13 a litre plus VAT for Full Synthetic at Services, they are 9,400 miles apart, and the oil is golden because i use the prescribed fuel.

I am away to pay you another £13 a litre plus VAT.

Yes I I am saying that the Mot tester's are keeping a record of the Radio stations on a spread sheet I don't what they do with that piece of paper but when I asked the guy said it was for advertisement purposes.

To be honest George theirs nothing new about those sorts of practices and I have no intention of passing the information on. The Garage in question is part of quite a large Franchise but that particular Garage is the only one that I know of that does it.

Not much different from employees that rummage in the Glove Box, Ashtray, under your mats looking for the

Locking Wheel Nut socket before looking in the boot at the tool kit.

In Car Video Cameras catching them doing it, could end up with them posted on Youtube looking like very dodgy geezers.

Hopefully someone has in car Video of an Employee checking Radio Stations.

Fiat do it round here, the mrs friend had one sent to her while her car was in recently.

No need to up-sell an oil and filter change, leave that to the dealers.

Roadtest - done from the car park to the ramps.

Diagnostics - 1 minute.

Updates - another minute, if there are any.

Visual checks - another minute, done whilst the oil is draining.

Reset service indicator -  same as the diagnostics.

Body condition report - 30 tick boxes.

Wash and vac - no thanks.

DIY then, and do not darken their doors.

What I would like to see is coverage of the full service, a head mounted camera worn by the guy actually working on my car showing everything, warts and all.

Much like this...
