Engine Oil too much?

Featured Replies

  • Author

If your engine is one of those that does not use or burn oil, that excess will stay in the engine until it is drained off.

Ok as long it stays in the engine and doesn't leak anywhere passing the oil seals damaging other components then I'm kosher with that.

Or I am expecting an inevitable doom of clutch, unsealed oil seals and catalytic converter failures soon this year or the year after that for a slight excess overfill last year?

So far no one in this thread reassured me apart from one or two people here that slight overfill is not to worry. If I vastly overfilled then I be less confident and be draining but just needed reassurance on slight overfill. You say yes or it will damage my car, all I can say is only time can tell on who is right then we see who stupid person really is lol.

The mods are aware of what's going on again

Please I do not want this thread to turn into a debate lol. I ask questions I get answers thank you however few answers on this thread conflict with other answers here so I keep asking questions till its clarified crystal clear to the end.

Also your responses have been negative and I do not want negative responses on my thread. You have the right not to answer my questions no ones forcing you to answer them anyway but if you answer in a negative way don't bother reaching for your keyboard.

If this thread is violating forum rules that is using vulgar swear words, bullying, discrimination etc. then the mods are obliged to deal with this thread and the members accordingly.

That is all.

You're asking on a public forum, you will always get different answers as most will be opinion based on experience rather than fact.

At the end of the day, there is a maximum oil level for a reason, running over the level by any amount is out of specification for the engine which can cause premature failure and increased wear of engine components. If extra oil caused no issues, the maximum wouldn't be there. Some people will have overfilled it with no obvious issues where as others may have blown seals within a few miles. It's all down to luck and the your engine.

Personally, given the complexity of modern engines, I'd take maximum as exactly that, a maximum, something not to be exceeded to ensure the longevity of the engine. Any garage can remove the excess oil in just a few minutes using a suction pump - why take the risk?

It's your car, treat it how you want. If you do have any engine issues, it may have been caused by your own disregard and apathy of the most basic checks any car owner can make.

This will never happen. You've now had a range of answers, pick any that take your fancy and consider it a closed case.

If you really want to know more I suggest you take a course in car maintenance or even engine design. You can then answer your own question :)

I like to fill my oil up until it flows out of the top of the dipstick tube.  Obviously, if a bit of oil is good, then more must be even better.

Laureen, are you my wife on here on secret?

If I get asked a question and don't give the right answer, I simply get asked and asked again until the answer I give is the one she wants to hear.

This is all too familiar....

Refer my previous request in post 41.

Post a photo of the oil level on the dipstick or step away from the keyboard and stop taking advantage of peoples better nature.

Keep in mind the moderators do know your email address.  I'm a mod on another forum and it's very easy to make a troublemakers online life quite miserable.

edit:  If you can't afford to get the oil drained then continuously dip & wipe the dipstick until it gets to the right level.

Sure!

If you fill twice as much as you need then you need to change it only once in 2 years!

Are you implying to threaten my online activity? Hack into my online bank account and take my money? Hack my other online accounts? Increase hatred and discredit me online on the internet. Yes you mods are clever with your computer knowledge but if anything happens i will get my husband involved who knows someone who works in the NCA cyber crime dept. Go ahead ;)

Hmmm everyone gone quiet all of a sudden. I wonder why.

To avoid any more trouble and future conflicts i suggest we end here. Thank you,

Got a new hubby?  You were freshly divorced last time you were here trolling, remember?   You need to keep you lies consistent.

I'm a mod elsewhere.  Read posts properly before replying.

BTW: everyone knows someone.  meh, big deal.  It takes a man on a horse, not a monkey on a stick.

Instead of arguing about perceived threats from other members within this thread Laureen1979, I strongly suggest that you read and ensure that you reply to the personal message which I sent earlier.

Fair to say after nearly a year, it was ok? Good. Given the topics age, heated and repeated looping, I'm happy to vote it's closed.

One quick note, we don't hunt for topics to moderate, I encourage the opposite in fact; given we're all adults, we wouldn't use or make someone's online life miserable.

We'll try and help prevent that through a policy of openness and inclusion ~ almost no matter*. That however can lead to more problems when help extended/offered isn't accepted. It's a fine line

*Position has changed somewhat since 2002, where now sadly sometimes a loss is the best course of action :(

Has this idiot f***ed off yet?? :giggle:

:) No not yet, inclusion policy bites me on the ass again. Very lucky to know someone in the TLA dept. I don't know half the people in my own head.

Hmmm everyone gone quiet all of a sudden. I wonder why.

I suspect they have because they cant be bothered replying to your pointless trolling....... :p

I've got Superman's number, but I won't bother him though cos if I do him and the Batman will just be entertaining themselves, Lol.

I hope Batman' s got some Kryptonite though else Superman will squish him.

I'm sure Jack could sort Lowreen & co out on his own though.

Why didn't I catch this thread before - amusing :)

I think, could be wrong, that the OP was waiting to get the answer they wanted to hear.

I've had similar issues on other forums. Somebody asks a question and even though all the answers are roughly the same, the OP pops up, disregards all answers and asks again until someone agrees with him - then he can say "I knew I was right" and he's happy.

So, other than not feeding the troll - best response is "Here is my advice and it is based on....." and I shall not be posting again.

Or, just simply tell the person what they want to hear :)
