M25 speeding

Featured Replies

if a friend was doing 83 on the M25 at 11pm at night and got caught by a gatso (about 5 miles from the M3 junction).

He is worried its a 6 pointer. could anyone clarify this please as he's had his licence only a short amount of time (under 2 years)

thanks

dave

and before anyone asks - i'm not hypothetically speaking for myself here :)

In roadworks or not?, if not most proberbly just 3 points and the fine.

I dont think it was roadworks. I would imagine if it were then the speed limit would be 50 and that would put him 32mph over :o

he's worried because he heard somewhere m25 speeding was 6 points :(

Hmmm 83 sounds harsh will have to watch out :( didn't think you'd get done for that.

But 5 miles from the m3.... would that be in the roadwork section with a lower limit perhaps??? - I stick the cruise on at the limit through that section and i'm amazed how many go through way above the limit there - IMHO they're asking to get nicked

:(

beaten to the post again :D

Yep...that'll be the road works for T5 and MWay widening.

From M3 going in clockwise direction towards M40 there are at least 4 cameras and limit is 40mph - 50mph.

If he got done for 83 in a 40mp.....that's more than double. Also have to consider it's through road works.

Perhaps only saving grace was that is late at night......but I think if he/she getts off with 3 points they should count themselves very lucky.

Just found out it was apparently straight after the national speedlimit sign, as he'd been going slow and pressed resume on the CC

so looking like 82/83 in a 70

Probably 3 points and

60 squid & 3 points

In a 70, he'd probably not set off the camera as his speedo will read high - prob doing about 75/76 - this wouldn't set off a gatso.

No worries you won't get 6 points for that - mind you your friend will probably be driving like a snail until the 2 years are up :D

Of course you might not get anything at all, even if it flashes doesn't necessarily mean a ticket there may have been no film in it, especially likely if it were only a temporary gatso.

M25 = whatever the speed limit is plus 10% is absolute max that's 'safe', anything over that and it's asking for trouble IMHO.

Don't forget your speedo overreads too by upto 10%

I thought that now, any offence in the first 2 years of driving was an instant ban and retest? May well have misheard it though as it came in after I learnt to drive

Chris

"Up to" being the important thing here. Please don't assume that you can do 77mph and it'll actually only be 70. Our mk1 Octavia was within 1mph of a gps system all the way up to 70 when we tested it. Same goes for two other cars which I tested it on.

And no, there's no instant ban, you have to get 6 points. Mind you there are a few things you can get 6 points straight for, including excessive speeding.

My speedo was not out by anywhere near that much. Indicated 105, clocked at 105... Yes I got lucky, etc. But the speedo was spot on ;)

He might be alright. There is a famous M25 camera between M4 and M40 that keeps going off around 80mph and never gets people into trouble for it.

In my vRS with the speedo on 80 MPH gps was around 73 MPH, running 225 wide tyres.

wot about the time limitation & 1st class post, does that still apply.

i remeber seeing a link to Five-o about it ?

If it was on that part of the M25 would that have been the variable speed limit in which case the camera's are only active when a lower limit is in force?

Are you 100% Certain, Im sure Ive seen them flash when there was no reduced limit

I'd read somewhere they were active all the time too...

Rob.

There was a programme on telly ages ago saying that they were only active when the limit is variable. They will flash but not photo.

No it doesn't, it's upto a max of 3%. If it read upto that much (10%) then there's something wrong with it, factories deliberately put it up to max 3% and not more.
