How much oil needed for servicing?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am planning on servicing my Y reg fabia mk1 1.9 tdi myself. Well, with the help of the experienced friend, really, as this will be my first service ever. I'll get all the parts needed and have got about 4 spare litres of oil.

This might sound a bit daft, but i just wanted to ask someone who's already been through this if 4 litres will be enough to fully replace the oil or should I get some extra? I have no idea how much of it goes to the sump for the level to be at its optimal range.

Any input appreciated:)

Thanks,

Vilius

think its 4.5ltr

I think I normally use just over 4 litres so I'd get an extra litre just to be on the safe side. And any left you can keep in your boot for top ups if needed

Using the correct oil is rather important, what is the stuff you have?

Yeah, it's 4.5l I believe (a touch over in my experience, but that could be because u always spill a little!)

Just finished servicing mine, was rather too busy to do it myself the last couple of years, but had some time for this one. Forgot how much cheaper it is that taking it to the garage!

Thanks for your answers lads, your help is much appreciated!

It seems that I'll need to get another litre of the oil and just keep what's left for top ups. I'm quite eager to get my hands dirty, hehe:)

I'm using Fuchs Titan G1 XTL 5W-40. That's what's been used during last service by the previous owner, so I just bought 5 litres of the same oil when I needed to top it up some time ago. It seems like it's not the most popular or known brand but the reviews online were quite good. Any thoughts, Wino?

so long as its 505.01 compatible it should be OK.

Engine oils are a mine-field of different specifications.

For example mineral oil, semi-synthetic,fully synthetic etc.

For the Fabia VRS MK1 PD130 1896cc diesel it's 5W40 Fully synthetic with the VW 505.01 specification.

But also available is 5W40 in mineral oil, and semi-synthetic where some do not meet with the VW 505.01 specification.

If unsure give Skoda a telephone call for peace of mind.

Good luck with your first service 'viliusku'.
