Give me a clue please...?

Featured Replies

As the new owner of a Mk111 184ps Octavia Scout, my 2nd Scout and our 5th Skoda, I'm very impressed with the car which seems to be laden with extras....not the norm for a demonstrator I'm sure. (And we went to view a Superb 4x4...in 1st class condition and very well equipped - both at Meaden's in Sway.

From tow-bar prepared to uprated headlights, not forgetting a heated windscreen, it really seems to offer a lot. The only wish would have been for folding mirrors.

I digress, my problem seems to be just how to refuel the car from a can? When refuelling at the pump a small sprung loaded flap is pushed aside by the nozzle of the diesel pump....however when using a can the nozzle of the fuel funnel will not push the flap aside...I've used to 2 different funnels, neither have worked!

Is there an owner who can offer advice (who has actually used a funnel on their Mk111 with success) on how to overcome this small problem?

My thoughts are that the flap could be to prevent a petrol pump nozzle by mistake, or to deter fuel siphoning?.....or?

Can't think why you would want to fill a diesl

Opps.start again. Can't think why you would want to fill a diesel from a can. They do huge milage between fill ups, to allow time to find a pump.

I ave seen on here a fuel can adaptor for the diesel, use the search facility or google, pretty sure I remember them being available on both Ebay an Amazon.

It's a ford mondeo emergency fill up funnel that should fit.

Brianpilman thanks for your response!

Later this afternoon I found out that most manufacturers have fitted a device to the diesel fuel entry point to disable any petrol nozzle from being inserted, from 2013 onwards.(This sadly includes fuel cans & funnels!)

For those that travel either here, or abroad with an emergency fuel can & funnel - perhaps they may care to try their own fuel entry point. The alternative could involve a costly tow to a filling station.

It seems that Fords from 2013 onward supply the device that you speak of. Most of the VAG range have this device fitted also!

So, 1st stop tomorrow....a Ford dealership, otherwise when I fill up - how do I transfer the additional 50L + that I purchase when topping up my fuel tank, all at 20p off when buying from a supermarket operating a points system.

I can't give it ALL to my wife for her Fabia M.C

Once again, THANKS!

Brianpilman - The Ford dealer ordered one in, 3 hours later I called back in & bought one at ....£1.80!

Later this afternoon I tested and found that access into the fuel tank is just as it should be!

Once again, very many thanks..Incidentally Old Sarum Skoda dealers had no idea what I was talking about, however the Ford parts man knew instantly what I was after...

No idea what this adaptor thing is, as never seen one. However my brother had fuel cans fitted with the standard black plastic bendy nozzle (no adaptor purchased). They happily filled up motorbikes, petrol cars, and my diesel Octy. No problem at all pushing aside the spring loaded flap.
