Very nice car. They should drop the 280 bhp tsi lump in to the Octavia!

They might do if a vRS+ ever gets the nod from HQ :-)

Just found my next car. I wanted a superb already but couldn't put up with the styling, so now that they've fixed that we're on!

I hope they make the top engine available with a proper gearbox, though.

Jeez it must be huge, 46mm wider... Manoeuvring in a town with narrow streets, going through width restrictions or parking in a multi storey will be nerve wrecking!   Although it must be comfy inside and a very comfy cruiser.

Looks good to me. That's another one I the mix. There are some decent cars now in this category. I think the Mazda 6 has the clear edge in terms of styling, but this looks good value compared to that, the Passat and the mondeo.

A review moaning about too much equipment seems odd though.

I test drove a Mazda 6 sport before i got the vrs.... When the long wait caused a waiver.   Wonderful colours, pretty shape, quite a bit more expensive at standard spec but with more tech. No where near the go, rougher ride and noisier ride.  The final nail in the coffin for me.... No spare, not even a space saver and no where to put one either.

I didn't realise that about the Mazda 6. That's a real omission. I thought in some countries it's a legal requirement to have a spare. It's a good example of form over function.

After owning 3 FL vRS 170's I decided it was time for a change of scenery.

Unfortunately the Superb will be too late coming out for me.

I ordered a Passat.
Will still stay in touch here though as you never know what could be next LOL

Mazda definitely supply a spare tyre in Australia on the current model 6.

Initially it was a full size spare but is now a skinnier temp that allowed a lower boot floor that added about 40 litres to the boot capacity.

The UK specs say a spare is an optional extra, so I should imagine there is a place inside the car to put it.

The things that turned me off the Mazda 6 were; the sedan has an 8cm longer wheelbase than the estate (sedan designed for the US and the estate more Eurocentric), the sedan no longer has the hatchback option, and the final dislike was that I prefer cars with good outward vision for the driver (compromised on the 6 with the lauded emphasis on styling).

The Octavia and especially the lower spec models available here offer far better accommodation/performance/quality/ride for thousands less than the competition but it has taken Skoda 7 years to start to make a sales impact and mostly with the Octavia.

Australia currently has a love affair with all things SUV even when the majority sold are 2WD. I just don't get it.

My next car :)

In about 3 years time :(

While the styling of the new Superb is better balanced than the existing model I am not sure that it will age well.

It has very obvious Octavia styling cues but I do not think they work as well in the larger car.

For instance I disliked the Hyundai I45 sedan styling from the outset but think that the 'mini-me' Elantra sedan was far more cohesive. Not that I would ever buy one.

Superb has impressively low weights for such a capacious car though.

When I looked the boot didn't have a well, just a shallow dish for some tools, I commented on it to the sales rep. I struck me as odd later, so I studied the brochure I'd picked up, spare wheel was not an option on 6 according to the brochure, it was an option on some other cars but not the 6, it was greyed out/ not shown as available.  Perhaps Mazda have seen the error, I hope so.
