Windows close when leaving them open

Featured Replies

Does anyone know why the windows close if I leave them open after I lock the car?

/Jan

The rain sensor closes them when rain or dew is detected.

If you don't want that you can turn it off in the maxidot display. (display unit centre of the speedo and rev counter)

If you keep your finger on the 'lock' button on your remote for more than two seconds you will fold mirrors and close windows/sunroof automatically (if option fitted/activated).

I believe you can toggle this function 'on' and 'off' in your on screen/big dot setup mode or via the VAG diagnostic connection thingy (I'm sure someone will post a more common sense answer to that latter bit)  :D

Edited to add - I had not realised that that was an option superbdreams - thanks for highlighting it

Thanks, I did know about the two second feature but not the rain sensor.. However, neither of these two will apply in this case, i.e. it did not rain and we did not hold the button for more than two seconds...

But it might be worth checking if the rainsensor is activated or not.

I love these extra features, when they work :-)

The windows and sunroof also self-close after a period of time: 12 hours from memory.

The "self-close" was new to me, but again, sorry, it does not apply in this case.

If you have KESSY, you can also close the windows by keeping your hand/finger over the sensor on the door for a couple of seconds after locking the car.

You can't discount the auto close just because you haven't seen any rain. Both cars I've had with auto wipers occasionally do a couple of wiper sweeps in the dry for no obvious reason, so unless you completely cover the sensor beforehand, it could be a false positive reading. Do the windows close after a fixed time interval?

You need VCDS to disable that function ("windows automatically closed when locking the car" or something like this).

no need for vcds on mine. Via mfd screens choose - settings-convenience-rain closing

Mine must be different or faulty. One long press only closes the windows. I have to do a second long press to fold the mirrors. This is on a MY60 Elegance estate.

This is totally different thing.

Rain closing: windows act on rain sensor.

Total closing - after activating central locking - can be done only with VCDS.

Same as mine. MY12.

From another forum:

Auto closing using one touch could be activated in those Golf V based vehicles that had a separate module 46. Since about 2009 VW excluded this module in the golf based variants and it's functions has been incorporated in the BCM #9 module and it has become a virtual module for communications purposes with other modules hence the response from the software above.

I thought that was what we were talking about>? haha

This must either be a fault or a setting in VCDS / VAS.

So you lower the windows, turn off the engine, get out of the car, lock the car using the remote and all four windows automatically close straight away?

I wouldn't have thought this would be something many people do as locking the car activates the alarm, so by leaving the windows down it is only a matter of time before something activates the alarm siren (unless you press the button to deactivate the internal motion sensors of course).
