steering wheel badge

Featured Replies

Like many on here I have changed my badges to the new style badges. But the steering wheel badge is still the old style. This does not help my OCD.

I know some say it can't be changed but ive seen on ebay the air bag covers for early citigos with the old style steering wheel and the new badge, minus the chrome u shape strip.

Can these be fitted to my superb and is it just a simple pull off and refit?

  • Only problem I see with this method is you don’t know what will happen to the badge in a deployment situation as part of the structure has been removed. Best way is to fit the OEM cover instead.

  • The point is you don’t want to modify the cover at all just in case something goes wrong when it rips open.

There's a thread on here where someone has replaced the airbag cover in order to get the new logo.

I'm considering doing the same, but £55 or so for the cover (on eBay) is too much IMO, so I contacted some peoe breaking Citigos and Roomsters. Most didn't get back to be and one wanted £165!

Another alternative is a Pasty Badge sticker over the top of it. Again, search on here for details.

Sorry for the delayed reply.

I rebadged the whole car, just like you, but got into SERIOUS problems with the steering wheel logo.  Essentially, it's bound to the airbag cover with two metal tongues which are so tightly jammed in you will have to wrench the logo out with prising tools and pliers.  They are MEANT to be unremovable so that the badge doesn't flip off during airbag activation. I only realised this when I was too far gone to stop.

This left me with a domed rubber surface and no way of ever getting a badge to go back in.

The domed surface was no good to me so I sawed it flat, in the process marking some of the air-bag cover around the dome (doh!). At this point I was almost weeping at my idiocy.

Accepting defeat, I ordered an airbag cover (complete with badge) from Ebay for around £40, but found that my local garage refused to fit it.

Finally, I came up with Plan B: a shiny logo for the drive wheels + some carbon-fibre effect cloth.

The results are not bad - the logo looks big at first but you get used to it; you have to super-glue it down.  The carbon-fibre trim is fiddly to get the template right, but again looks OK, I think.  So now I'm black and chrome all over.

Key lesson to be learned from this:  DON'T.

I've done it - I mention it in the first post of my project thread

Unfortunately the ebay seller I used no longer exists, but you may be able to find someone to print a stick-on gel badge of your own design and size for a few quid, and literally a few seconds with a hair dryer and it moulded itself to the shape of the original domed badge and hasn't budged a year later

Guy

Exactly what I did (above).

I have a spare if you want it....it's a gel badge that easily just stuck on/over the existing steering wheel badge without any hassle. Looks fine.

Wizzmed - PM me your address and I'll pop it in the post to you if you want it.

Wile7 (Dave) has saved the day and has sent me one all the way from Switzerland. Just need to fit it now.

Thanks again.

Do you still have the airbag cover you bought with the new logo on?

If you have, do you want to sell it?

Sorry, I sold it, Karl.

Pity, but thanks for replying.

Glad you got it ok :)

Wile7, Where did you get the gel badge from. Have you got a link?

Hi Wizzmed,

I have spoken to a guy on e-bay who will make you the gel badges he's on there as stick-it signs or just look up gel badges, he said he'd make them what ever size you wanted, he has made some already for some Skoda owners with a black background and red centre with the new badge, he can make them in any colour you want.

It is possible to remove the cover at de mount the old logo from behind. I have done it 3 times myself.

It takes a little effort to mount the new ones.

Hi, Yes the one on the lift side is from at 2006 Octavia. Others use this airbag to. fx. fabia Around same year. The one on the right os from af Faceliftet Octavia, also used i fabia an Superb pre facelift.

Some friend of mine have made a little guide. It is in Danish. (sorry).. But you get it all from the pictures.

It involves some drilling af gluing. The one on th left it clerly the easiyst to change. And it is because that one is bending ind instead og out lige the facelift one.

(This guide is all on your own. And at your own risk) ;)

Do you remember the new badge part number?

Question everyone: is this even close to changing the same logo badge on my MK1 Fabia VRS 2005? (Thanks)

My local garage refused to swap mine; they won't work with any air-bag related issue and pointed me in the direction of accident repair specialists.

Despite the step-by-step instructions, apparently it's still a tricky job.  I certainly wouldn't do it myself.

With the cover from cars equipment it is at 15min job. ;)

Not cheap though.

Hello

Just bought a 2011 125kw dsg estate.

What i realized (little bit late...) , that i dont have a shift pad behind the steering wheel, inspite of dsg.

Is it really possible that it was originally equipped like this or with dsg is it a must to have the dsg buttons on the wheel??

Thx

The DSG is available with and without steering wheel paddles.

All is not lost however as you can retrofit a wheel with paddles and then use VCDS to code the car to accept the new wheel.

Thanks. First i was worried that the wheel was changed. :s

All in all i am not missing those paddles.;)
