Hi all,

 

Some of you may know I bought my first car a few weeks back and it had been in the garage for a week until I collected last Wednesday from the garage. It has been fixed and I had a new injector fitted to the car.

 

Also I have cleaned the car inside and now smells way better. I saturated the seats with water and soap to get them clean and made sure they were completely dry before installing them back into the car. I have also cleaned the dashboard, roof lining and lots more.

 

However this Sunday I would like to take the plastic off the doors and clean behind them. Has anyone done this before? My brother has and has a good idea of doing it. Also do you think it's going to be dirty behind the doors and is it a good idea of doing it?

 

Any help would be appreciated,

Not sure what you mean here.

 

If you mean the door cards, then no, at least not noticeably. If you mean the plastic membranes behind the cards, sort of, but the only place it matters is at the drain holes, and it's better to clean those from outside with a piece of heavy copper wire (2mm^2 mains core but you only need a few inches; ask nicely for an offcut in a builder rather than trying to buy what you need).

 

If you mean the door rubbing strips on the outsides, then yes, but they are very well stuck on and you'll cause more problems than you'll cure.

In agreement with Ken - can you clarify which side of the door you mean?

There are no plastic membranes behind the door cards.

They get dusty if anything, don't think it's worth the hassle tbh but if you want the car all peachy, it's not going to do any harm (apart from all the clips you'll smash)

Water runs down the inside of the door from the window seals where it drains through onto the sill tops so it'll always be a little dirty in there, I wouldn't bother since you'll disturb the sealant on the window carriers and have to reseal them.

I think he just means behind the door card.

Removing the window regulator and cleaning inside the door she'll itself will be very extreme imo.

Dunno why he doesn't put us out of our misery, but my money's on him meaning the outside of the door.

Why would he bother cleaning behind the door card (or the inside of the door for that matter), it'd be like putting make-up on yer bum.

Really? Perhaps you'd care to explain what stops the cards getting soaking wet in heavy rain then?

A big piece of metal glues to the door then screwed or riveted in place.

Aka window regulator on the Fabia as they often come together if you wish to google it.

So the answer's actually "nothing, unless the clamping pressure on the regulator mounting plate is perfect".

 

Presuming a plastic membrane is not unreasonable since that's what most cars do.

You mean the top of the door card? If so, I'd clean that with cotton buds or keyboard cleaners rather than take the card off.

The whole door I think. What do you mean by door cars? The Plastic door handles etc?

Door card is the part at the right hand end of the stick in this picture:

 

 

 

The carrier plate which is used rather than a plastic film is the silvery-coloured steel at the left hand end of the stick. (Which will be riveted to the door itself on your car).

Okay, Thanks Wino, Probably just clean that plastic film/card because it will be dirty there.
