In a change to the advertised plan, I'll now not be competing at Silverstone but will hopefully be doing a double header at Brands Hatch [emoji106]

Basically yeah, I was hoping to have enough time but after discussions it would be a push at best and it's not fair of me to put that pressure on them so I've made an early call [emoji106]

I will be supporting though along with Dr Evil [emoji3]

Richard, you should use Rain X on your windscreen for rainy races! Our drivers didnt want to leave the stands without it.

Gives you a much better view, also on the parts that little windscreen wiper doesnt reach.

I did.

Got through qualifying and half the race then had to put the wiper on.

Was really bad and screen fairly upright.

Just prep it with Rain X a couple of times (and everytime before you start) than it will last longer :sun:

G5 is also really good on windows. Seems a little more durable than rain x

That's what i meant upthread with the comment about how kitten wet it was.

Or better yet pray for no rain LOL. Richard did great despite the conditions and was pushing hard, seeing the video footage with the other drivers braking way earlier in lots of corners. Can't wait to see how he does in dry conditions. Certainly pushed Danny hard around Snetterton on testing so will be good to see... and less wet & miserable for those watching in the rain LOL.

I tested G5 too, it does last longer but isnt as slippery as RainX if put on new.

That is why I suggested RainX. It is a little more work, but works for one race perfectly.

It just belongs to preparing the car for a wet race  

As Damo has already shown you, we have been taking a step forward with the car. I bodged a bell and bracket setup together as shown in his pics to get it all sat right.

This is the finished bell. The brackets however have yet to be made as Damo required the strut back to move the car.

Starting to turn the bore for the bell itself

The first side of the bell complete with the holes drilled and test fitting the disc.

Turning the bell to the correct length and making a start on the stud holes

The finished article along with test fitting to the strut to double check fitment.

Bodged and brakes in one sentence... I'll keep away from Damo in the race... Haha.

Luckily it was only a bodge to get sizing a [emoji15]

Haha I don't blame you, it was purely bodged to get the position and correct offset of the bell to allow the caliper bracket to sit correctly

CSCC Tin Tops Race Report.

Saturday 30th April, 2106.

 

Was looking like a good day, slightly cool but sun was shining, Fiesta and Focus out and looking good.

Off to qualifying and the Fiesta felt very strong.

Spend two laps getting the tyres up to temperature and then started to push on a bit.   Got caught behind a few slower moving cars but I could feel a good time was in the bag.

Then the alarms went off and I had to shut it down, about 8 minutes into the session.  Annoying, but didn't want to risk damage so needed the car checking over.

In just those first few laps I'd put in a time that set me up for 7th on the grid.

Have done Silverstone plenty of times in the R32 GT-R so quite familiar with about 60% of the lap as the we always do the GP and this was the national.

 

Danny meanwhile was on the Silverstone National for his first time ever, so was busy learning the track.

Still put in a decent time which saw him come 13th.

 

 

Checking the car over during the break it was clear that yet again the Fiesta wasn't to start the race.  Or any race as it's actually not managed one so far.

Four breakdowns to date, two engine related and two gearbox related, meaning here we are two races into the season and Brands last October and it still hasn't started on the grid.

Frustration obviously starting to become a thing.

 

We had a heavy rain shower over lunchtime but fortunately the track mostly dried as we were race four, was just a bit damp off line.

 

Danny made a cracking start in the race, which was a rolling start, and was up to 10th within a few corners.

Continued pressing on, made up a another place and then started to suffer an engine misfire costing him about two seconds per lap.

A long fight with a Peugeot followed which was finally jumped in the pit stop.

Then the misfire continued allowing the Peugeot back in front.

Fortunately the misfire then mostly cleared, allowing Danny to put in consistent laps in the 1:08.5 to 1:09 range to pass the Peugeot and another car pushing the Focus up to 7th by the checkered flag.

It was a damn good race, bar your retirement Richard. Danny did very well and the pitstop went off without a hitch.

Lets hope not, though just in case I'll bring some brake cleaner to get it going. Saw a tyre being blown on the rim with this stuff, goes up a treat lol
